Graduation – Various Dates in June 2013
Tagline – Look toward the future as you celebrate the success of your past on graduationday.
Activity – Provide graduation memories by videotaping the ceremonies with yourschool’s video camera and selling copies to graduates with profits benefitting theschool. Include in the video, student and teacher testimonials of how they are celebrating their education.Encourage elementary students to join in the celebration by making congratulatory signs to decorate the stadium orauditorium where students will graduate.
Twitter/Facebook – Graduation day is a time of celebration! One of the most importantdays in a student’s life: it’s a time for reflection and celebration, as students look toward their future while standing on a firm foundation of education.
Father's Day - Third Sunday in June
Tagline - Celebrate the influence of fathers in society!
Activity - Ask students enrolled in summer school or summer camps to discover the "father" or founder of a variety of things we use daily. Research Father Time, the "father" of science or medicine, technology and related devices, sports or other areas of interest to students. Ask them to reflect on the contributions of a "father" figure in their own lives. Have students research the "father" of education in their local area, discovering the history of how education evolved in their city and their school. Share these reflections on the school or district Facebook page or "tweet" their findings via Twitter. Share a compilation of student reflections on the district website.

Tagline – Celebrate our nation’s road to independence!
Activity – Encourage each student to research information about a particular event that led to our independence. To represent the event, students can create small projects, write essays, and/or write and perform a brief skit. Students then are encouraged to put all events together in order to create a complete timeline. (NOTE – If students develop skits, they can perform their skits for younger students and/or their parents.)
Suggest this activity as an at-home activity for parents to engage in with their children. They can explore on the Internet together, visit the local library as a family, and perform skits for grandparents and extended family during family gatherings.
Twitter/Facebook – Students at <YOUR SCHOOL> celebrate their Independence byexploring history and discovering newfound pride in their country.
Ice Cream Month - (Third Sunday of the month is National Ice Cream Day)
Tagline - Education is bigger in Texas! Get the scoop on why <YOUR SCHOOL/DISTRICT> is celebrating!
Activity - Invite students and parents to an ice cream social to tour the school, get school supply lists and meet the teacher before the August rush begins. Host an extended learning night where students can apply science skills while making homemade ice cream. then invite parents to join in after class to taste the scientific concoctions. Post to your district web page, Facebook page or Twitter feed, the 31 "flavors" of education in your district or school. Example: <NAME OF DISTIRCT> ISD celebrates ice cream month with an education flavor of the day: Our Science Team earned top honors at the National Science Fair!
