Entry requirements for overall pathways in RR6 2015/16:
Pathway 1
Where students have achieved 8 or more GCSEs at Grades A*/A, including English Language and Mathematics, student will be eligible to take 4 full A’Levels or level 3 BTEC courses. Where students have taken BTEC level 2 courses, one BTEC course may be counted within these 8 subjects where it is achieved at Distinction+ level only.
Pathway 2:
Where students have achieved 7 or more GCSEs at Grades A*/B including English Language and Mathematics, student will be eligible to take 3 full A-Levels or level 3 BTEC courses, plus an additional one-year level 3 course from our offer (e.g. Gold Crest Science Awards,EPQ, DofE Gold, Gold Arts Award, Music Grades, Sports Leaders Awards). Where students have taken BTEC level 2 courses, a maximum of two BTEC courses may be counted within these 7 subjects where they are achieved at Merit/Distinction or higher level only.
Pathway 3
Where students have achieved 5 or more GCSEs at Grades A*/C including English Language and Mathematics, student will be eligible to take 3 full A’Levels or level 3 BTEC courses. Where students have taken BTEC level 2 courses, a maximum of two BTEC courses may be counted within these 7 subjects where they are achieved at Merit/Distinction or higher level only. Students on this pathway will also complete supported study to support them in achieving the highest grades possible.
In exceptional circumstances, students with Distinction / Distinction+ grades in performing arts subjects, but grade D in GCSE English and/or Mathematics may be considered for progression on to Pathway 3 in the relevant performing arts subjects only. They will then re-take the GCSE Maths and English courses and re-take the exams during RR6.

Applied Science (L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma and Diploma) / GCSE Core Science Grade C or BTEC L2 Applied Science Merit
Art and Design (A’Level) / Grade B or higher in GCSE Art and Design/Art and Textiles OR Merits or higher in BTEC Level 2 Art. Applicants for this course will be required to attend with their portfolio as part of the interview process.
Biology (A’Level) / Grade B or higher in GCSE Biology and a Grade B or higher in GCSE Chemistry and Physics OR both Core and Additional Science. B or above in Maths and English. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
Business
(L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma) / GCSE Business, Economics or ICT at grade C or BTEC Level 2 Business or ICT at Merit. In exceptional circumstances, students who have not previously studied these subjects may be admitted IF their average GCSE / BTEC grade is a C AND they show a particular aptitude and enthusiasm for the subject.
Business Studies (A’Level) / GCSE English Language and one Humanities subject at Grade B. If GCSE Economics or Business have been studied, Grade B required.
Chemistry (A’Level) / Minimum Grade B in GCSE Chemistry and in Biology and Physics. Alternatively, a minimum of B grades in both Core and Additional Science GCSE. Maths and English GCSE grade Bs are also required. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
Creative Media Production
(L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma) / GCSE Media or Film Studies at grade B or BTEC Level 2 in Creative Media Production at Merit.In exceptional circumstances, students who have not previously studied these subjects may be admitted IF their average GCSE / BTEC grade is a C AND they show a particular aptitude and enthusiasm for the subject.
Drama & Theatre Studies (A’Level) / Drama GCSE grade B or above or BTEC Performing Arts at Distinction plus experience of performing, participating in productions, seeing live theatre. Applicants for this course will be required to attend an audition as part of the interview process.
Economics (A’Level) / GCSE Mathematics and English Language grade B or higher. If students have studied Economics GCSE, minimum grade for entry is a B.
English Literature (A’Level) / GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature grade B or GCSE Combined English grade A.Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
Film Studies (A’Level) / GCSE English Language and Literature grade B or higher and preferably GCSE Media Studies or Film Studies grade B OR BTEC Level 2 Creative Media Production at Merits or higher.
Further Mathematics (A’Level) / GCSE Mathematics Grade A in GCSE Mathematics supported by an A to D grade in Additional Mathematics or an A*/A in Further Maths GCSE. Please note, students who wish to study this A’ Level must also study A’ Level Mathematics. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
Geography (A’Level) / GCSE Geography grade B or higher. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
Government & Politics (A’Level) / GCSE English Language grade C or higher and ideally GCSE History Grade C.
Health & Social Care
(L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma) / GCSE Core Science at grade C or BTEC Applied Science at Merit or higher. Preferably BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care at Merit or higher (but not essential).
History (A’Level) / GCSE History grade B or higher. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
ICT (Applied) (A’Level) / GCSE ICT grade B or higher (or equivalent BTEC Certificate or DIDA qualification). Competency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS PPT, Photoshop CS3, Flash CS3, Dreamweaver or Serif Webplus will be beneficial.
Information Technology
(L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma) / GCSE ICT at grade C or BTEC Level 2 ICT or DIDA at Merit
Mathematics (A’Level) / Mathematics GCSE grade A. Where students have achieved a Grade B in mathematics they may be accepted to the course with additional study required prior to starting the course in September. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
Media (A’Level) / GCSE English Language grade B or higher and preferably GCSE Media Studies or Film Studies grade B OR BTEC Level 2 Creative Media Production at Merits or higher.
Modern Languages (French, German, Spanish) (A’Level) / GCSE in the relevant language at grade B or higher.
Music

You should also have practical experience of live performance or composing. Applicants for this course will be required to attend an audition as part of the interview process.
Performing Arts (Dance) (L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma) / GCSE in Dance at C or Merit profile at BTEC Level 2 Performing Arts (Dance or Musical Theatre). You should also have practical experience of live dance performance. Applicants for this course will be required to attend an audition as part of the interview process. Under exceptional circumstances students with high levels of extra-curricular dance performance experience will be considered for this course without formal dance qualifications. Evidence of this will be required at interview and entry to the course will be at the discretion of the Head of Dance following the audition.
Performing Arts (L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma and Extended Diploma) / GCSE in Drama/Dance at C or Merit profile at BTEC Level 2. You should also have practical experience of live performance. Applicants for all Performing Arts courses will be required to attend an audition as part of the interview process.
Photography (A’Level) / GCSE Art B or a suitable portfolio of photographic work. Applicants for this course will be required to attend a workshop with their portfolio as part of the interview process.
Physical Education (A’Level) / GCSE grade B’s in Core and Additional Science or grade B in Biology and Physics. In addition students should have at least either grade B in GCSE PE or Distinction in BTEC Sport. Students without the sports qualifications but who have proven sporting ability and achievement (such as Sports Leadership Awards, representation of a club or borough in a specific sport) would also be considered for this A’ Level but must provide evidence of these achievements at interview.
Physics (A’Level) / Grade B GCSE in Maths AND EITHER Grade B or higher in GCSE Physics and a Grade B GCSE or higher in Biology and Chemistry, OR Grade B in both Core and Additional Science. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
Product Design (A’Level) / GCSE DT or Product Design grade B or higher.
Production Arts (L3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma and Extended Diploma) / GCSE in Drama at B or Merit profile at BTEC Performing or Production Arts Level 2. Applicants for this course will be required to attend a specialist interview with portfolio as part of the interview process.
Psychology (A’Level) / At least one Science GCSE and GCSE English Language at grade B or higher.
Religious Studies (Philosophy & Ethics) (A’Level) / GCSE English Language Grade B, GCSE Religious Studies Grade B. Students must have an average GCSE point score of 44 points.
