1)FPTA Leadership Nominations- Kevin Lu-Mac

  1. Benefits of getting involved: getting your name out there, Florida involvement, National involvement. Consider current and future stance/interest to gather names. Contact nominating committee, don’t need to wait. If interested, respond quickly through FPTA webpage or contact Kevin.

6)Old Business

  1. Federal Advocacy Forum (March 25 & 26)– Jamie/Vanessa
  2. Legislature
  3. Eliminate Medicare therapy cap- Why? The cap puts a ceiling on reimbursement for these patients. D/C patients early because they cannot pay for services will increase re-admissions due to falls. Looking positive to completely eliminate the therapy cap.
  4. Health force corp- those who apply/agree to work in underserved areas throughout the US for 2-year period, eligible for up to $50,000 in loan forgiveness; trying to add PT/PTA to the agreement. In the other professions already a part of the program, up to 75% of those who participate, stay in those underserved areas. Budget neutral.
  5. PTs and PTAs who travel with sports teams can treat your team while traveling through the US; follow regulatory rules of your state of practice.
  6. Licensing compact- once you get your license, you can practice in temporary location using license from state of origin without transferring license but still following regulatory rules of temporary location.
  7. Advocacy days in first or second weekend in November, Tallahassee. Student and non-student scholarships available.
  8. EPSIG Leadership Meeting update (March 22) – CariAnn
  9. Mission:The EPSIG provides early professionals with a framework of mentorship, membership, leadership, professional development and networking to further engage them and develop the skills needed to be leaders in the physical therapy profession.

  11. Vision:The EPSG develops early professionals as members, mentors, leaders and practitioners as a strong network of active members as they transition from new graduates to established professionals that take the lead and inspire positive change in the physical therapy profession.

  13. Tier Structure
  14. Each tier develops projects to develop skills
  15. Five tiers, instruct new members to join a tier
  16. Don’t always know which tier they want to participate in, may not want to be fully involved but work on smaller tasks.
  17. Break down tier system to include tier leader with projects and invite members to participate in any of the projects of interest to them.
  18. Don’t want to lose new member interests so instead are introducing questionnaire.
  19. Results will get submitted to database/resource for management of interests, mentors, contacts, etc.
  20. Questionnaire will be the responsibility of the membership and leadership tier leaders
  21. Finalize removal of BIG/LITTLE program – introduce Questionnaire
  22. New members have resulted in out growing big/little program
  23. Frustrating for both new members and current Bigs
  24. Green – more new members than available BIGs
  25. Blue – more fully engage our new members
  26. Gold – survey and connection with current leader
  27. Orange –flexibility of relationships and tier involvement

7)Tier Updates

  1. Membership (Nicole Nichols) – Next EPSIG challenge? #jumpintopracticewithEPSIG
  2. Social-media based challenge to increase awareness of PT as a profession and engage new members. First year plank challenge. Second year balance challenge. Fall conference through new year; need to make your post PUBLIC to be seen.
  3. #jumpintopracticewithEPSIG kick off at Fall 2017 Conference and run through Spring 2018 Conference.

  5. Mentorship (Amanda Williamson) – BIG/LITTLE program transition, “ask EPSIG” Forum (Clinical Guidance)
  6. Professional Development (CariAnn Litz) – volunteer monthly Journal club responders 2/4
  7. Vanessa and Katherine have volunteered to post responses on monthly basis. Would like at least 4.
  8. Always looking for those interested/willing to provide article reviews and appraisal of level of evidence. Have volunteers through June, will look for additional volunteers for July, August, etc.
  9. Only Early professionals can comment to forum. Can we expand that to include all APTA members?
  10. Leadership (Joshua Lewis) – FPTA Professional Association Leadership (PAL) mentorship program update
  11. FA #6- gathering mentors from leadership perspective to help prepare for getting involved. 32 mentors at current count. Mentee application opened to complete survey. Will be clinical aspect eventually however it’s difficult to perform clinical mentorship from a distance.
  12. Buddy system for conferences to see what’s important to the mentee.
  13. Looking to have a representative from each university and college to know how to find funding on a less formal platform than the mentor/mentee program.
  14. Resources posted to web page.
  15. Finance resources that will be easily accessible for money management, loans, how to find financial advisor, etc. Awaiting feedback from Board. Should be a financial presentation at least once a year.
  16. Networking (Jillian Carney) – twitter account; Facebook page: monthly member feature, journal club post, Friday memes; Instagram; conversations w/EPSIG chapters in other states, opportunities for volunteers?

  4. Buddy system will use the app as will mentor/mentee application.
  5. Northern District- Ninja Challenge May 20th – EPSIG Team?

  7. PT/PTA Program representatives (Jamie Dyson) – grad talks
  8. Representatives at each of the PT and PTA programs in FL to encourage membership retention.
  9. Still valuable as an early professional.
