RADIANT HEAT EQUIPMENT
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
A.Section Includes: Include labor, materials, equipment, and accessories necessary to furnish and install radiant heat equipment as scheduled on Drawings.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A.Shop Drawings: Submit a portfolio showing schedules of radiant heating equipment showing mechanical requirements for approval by Architect/Engineer.
B.Schedules: Submit schedules of radiation heating elements and enclosures indicating length and number of pieces of element and enclosure, corner pieces, end caps, cap strips, access doors, pilaster covers, and a comparison of specified heat required to actual heat output provided.
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A.Terminal Heat Transfer Units: Products shall be by a manufacturer regularly engaged in production of such units and issuing complete catalog data on such product.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURERS

2.02 FINNED TUBE RADIATION
A.Elements: Tube and fin size and type shall be as scheduled on Drawings or specified.
1.Steel heating elements shall be manufactured with pressure tubing permanently bonded to steel fins by a mechanical process.
2.Copper aluminum heating elements shall be manufactured of seamless copper tube permanently bonded to aluminum fins by a mechanical process.
3.Copper tube or FTR is NOT ACCEPTABLE for steam systems.
4.For hot water heating, capacity of element is based on 190degreesF EWT, [30]degreesF TD, and [30percent glycol].
5.For steam heating, capacity of element is based on 2 psi steam.
B.Backplate: Full backplate shall be dieformed for rigidity. Backplate shall be offthewall type allowing for ease of enclosure removal. Provide a rubber gasket for a complete air seal at the wall.
1.Contractor shall note on Drawings special applications of radiation where full size, flat finished backplate is required, and where radiation covers are omitted in cabinet construction.
C.Heating Element Hangers: Hangers for heating elements shall be of the ballbearing, cradle type or rod type dieformed, providing for lengthwise movement of element during expansion and contraction, as well as aligning element to prevent contact with bracket, wall or enclosure. Vertical adjustment shall also be provided.

1.Hangers shall be adjusted to provide pitch for steam radiation piping.
D.Supply and Return Pipe Hangers: Provide hanger for supply and return pipe lines of the roller bearing type, ensuring noiseless operation of these pipe lines during expansion and contraction.
E.Brackets: Brackets shall be dieformed for rigidity and shall support the full backplate at the top, as well as the front skirt of the enclosure. Brackets shall incorporate a security lock for fastening the enclosure, eliminating removal of enclosure without tools.
F.Enclosures: Enclosures shall be slope type and shall be manufactured of 16gauge steel. Reinforce enclosures with welded gussets across louvered area and further reinforce by joining with slip joints. Secure enclosure to brackets with a security type lock to prevent removal without tools. Louvers to deflect air stream away from wall to prevent soiling wall.
1.When heating pipe is run in cover with element, cover height shall be increased as required to accommodate pipe.
G.Finish: Enclosures shall be chemically phosphatized before priming with zinc chromate baked primer or baked enamel. Final coat shall be baked enamel of color selected by Architect/Engineer.
H.Accessories: Accessories shall be dieformed with beaded or flanged edges.
1.Locate 2foot long access section at every control valve and where shown on Drawings with screwdriver slot operator.
2.03 CONVECTORS
A.Elements: Seamless copper tubing shall be mechanically expanded into evenly spaced aluminum fins and cast brass headers. Element headers may be (2), (3) or (4)tubes deep as scheduled on Drawings. Elements shall be held in place with steel side plates and supports. Provide dielectric couplings as required. Supports shall allow means of adjusting pitch of elements. Elements shall be factory air tested at 100psi under water.
1.Capacity of element is based on 190 degree FEWT, [30] degreeFTD, and [30percent glycol].
B.Cabinet: Cabinets may be [free standing] [wall hung surface] [wall hung recessed] [slope top] [flat top] [partially recessed cabinets]. Enclosure shall be 16gauge steel with 18gauge steel back and ends. Exposed corners shall be rounded. Easily secured front panels shall be braced and reinforced for stiffness. Recessed and semirecessed units shall have 4side overlap enclosures mounted such that bottom of enclosure is at top of base.
C.Finish: Enclosures shall be chemically phosphatized before priming with zinc chromate baked primer or baked enamel. Final coat shall be baked enamel of color selected by Architect/Engineer.

2.04 RADIANT CEILING PANELS
A.Panel Construction: Radiant panels shall consist of an 0.040inch aluminum face plate, a 1/2inch copper serpentine coil metallurgically bonded to face plate, and shall be backed by 1inch thick, 3/4pound density fiber glass pads.
B.Output: Panels shall have an output of 170 BTU per square foot when provided with 190degreeF mean water temperature.
C.Fire Rating: Panels shall have a flame spread rating of not more than 15 under UL test with no smoke developed and shall meet 0.15range requirements of ASTM E84 flame spread procedure.
D.Finish:
1.Acoustical Tile Ceiling: Panels shall have a silk screen finish to match mineral fissured acoustical tile similar to Celotex, "Safetone Fissuretone".
2.Textured Plaster Ceiling: Panels shall have a nonperforated, white painted finish.
a.Provide plaster frames matching the panels for flush mounting in the plaster ceiling.
2.05 PANEL RADIATOR
A.General:
1.Radiators are manufactured of cold rolled low carbon steel, fully welded and consisting of header pipes at each end, connected by standard pressure 0.048inch minimumwall thickness flat oval water tubes.
2.Radiator header pipes are square 0.109inch minimumwall thickness and include all necessary supply, return, and air vent connections. Internal baffling is provided as required.
3.Piping connections shall be 3/4inch NPT taper threaded sockets, located in either side, or vertical positions. Air vent connections shall be 1/8inch NPT taper threaded sockets.
a.Working pressure shall be rated for 56 psi maximum (tested at 74psi).
4.Radiator expansion does not exceed 0.016inch per linear foot at 215degreesF. Expansion compensation to be provided in the piping as required by Contractor.
5.Radiators shall be phosphatized and primed with flat white baked enamel. Radiators shall be painted with Option 21 anticorrosion finish paint.
a.Color of the finish paint shall be selected from available standard or optional colors prior to ordering.

6.Locking wall mounting brackets shall be provided with radiators. Necessary wall support blocking for proper radiator mounting shall be by the Contractor.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 RADIATION AND CONVECTOR INSTALLATION
A.Valves, Pipe, and Fittings: Install units with valves, pipe, and fittings as detailed on Drawings for steam and hot water systems.
B.Control: Controls shall be installed and connected to units as described in Section 230900, Building Management System.
3.02 RADIANT CEILING PANEL INSTALLATION
A.Panel Connections: Interconnecting tubing shall be 1/2inch outside diameter, TypeL, soft copper tubing. Interconnecting tubing and panel copper tubing shall be soldered using 955 tinantimony solder. Supply and return run out tubing from panel circuits to termination fittings shall be as specified above and of size required not to exceed the total circuit pressure drop. Install final connections of tubing to MPT supply and return fittings at termination of main piping by this Contractor.
B.Support: Contractor shall provide suitable support system for radiant ceiling panels with connection to building structure when panels are not located in layin tile ceiling.
C.Condition: Radiant panels, when installed in the suspension, shall be dead flat and when checked with a straightedge shall show no signs of convex or a concave condition. Panel showing such a condition shall be removed and replaced.
D.Tests: Interconnecting piping and radiant panel connections between the supply and return valves shall be tested by this Contractor.
E.Control: Controls for unit heaters shall be installed and connected to units as described in Section 230900, Building Management System.
3.03 EQUIPMENT SCHEDULES
A.Refer to Drawings for schedules.
