The Om Indu rural hospital is managed by Om Indu Jain charitable Trust. The trust was formed in the memory of Mr. Om, his wife Mrs. Indu and their children Ruchi and Rikki who lost their life in the fatal Air India Boeing 747 “Kanishka” air crash over the Irish coast near cork on June 23rd 1985.
Mr.OM was working with Bell Northern Research in Canada as Manager-Terminal product & integrity. The compensation received from Air India, and the money collected after liquefying his assets in Canada was used for setting up the Om Indu Jain Charitable Trust.
The Om Indu charitable trust is a registered trust with its head office at Delhi.

Om Indu Rural Hospital
The trust keeping up with its vision of “Health For All” started a charitable dispensary in village Dhankot, the native village of Mr. Om on 4th March 1987. 20 Year’s hence the Om Indu Rural Hospital today stands as a proof to our commitment, providing quality healthcare to the rural population in all streams of medicine. The hospital has the following departments to cater to the needs of masses.· Medicine

The Eye Department is being run with the help of Venu Eye Institute and is performing about 4000 cataract surgeries in a year. The daily OPD patients registered are nearly 200.
The hospital is also actively involved in creating Awareness among the population through following regular camps and the camps were financed by the hospital itself.

Women’s Polytech
The Enterpreneneurship programme for girls in rural areas was started in early 2005The aim of the Women’s Polytech is to educate women and girls to become self- reliant. The Polytech runs courses in stitching and tailoring & Computer education.16 girls are at present attending training classes.
Prevention and treatment of dental diseases in rural school children
A high prevalence of dental diseases among the rural population, especially children prompted Om Indu Rural Hospital to take up this project. The aim of the project is to address the preventive & curative needs of the rural children; creating awareness about dental diseases & their prevention; motivating them to adopt good oral hygiene practices so that they become our ambassadors of good oral hygiene spreading the message to their families and the community & to formulate a detailed plan to combat the menace of dental disease.
1587 students were screened so far; the treatment was provided free of cost to 856 students. The students were taught about the importance of brushing using audio- video aids. The doctors also demonstrated proper brushing technique to these school children. The Project was implemented in four villages Dhankot, Basai, Kherki Majra & Dhanwapur and on the basis of the study PROJECT SMILE has been drawn up.

· PROJECT PRAKASH: A project run by Chaudhary Trust for the children in the slums of gurgaon.The trust provides non-formal education. Om Indu Rural Hospital has taken responsibility of providing mid day meal to these children.
· Project Nayandeep: A project run by Venu eye institute Delhi to bring eye care to the door step of the villagers.Om Indu Rural hospital provides the Venu institute with the basic infrastructure and medical back up

PROJECT SMILE
Project Smile is a community dental health programme through rural school children to bring down the prevalence of dental disease in them with a positive effect on the community. It is planned to conduct oral hygiene awareness, preventive and curative programmes in schools at regular intervals so that the message of Good Oral Hygiene is imbibed into the community. The project aims at 4 schools per year and has drawn up plan for covering 16 schools over a period of 4 years.2.1.2 / Vision and Mission of Project / Vision: Healthy & Bright Smile to rural children.

High prevalence of dental disease, low socio-economic status and lack of adequate dental services in the rural India are the main factors in launching “Project Smile”
The project covers all the rural children (around 40,000) in the age group of 5-18 years through schools in 16 villages namely Gadauli, Hassru, Garhi, Kadipur,Makrola, Bhangrola,kaliawas,Iqbalpur ,Sultanpur, Sadrana, Hyatpur, Kankrola ( 4 schools to be identified later on) & will be completed in 4 years taking 4 schools per year.
The short term goals are
· Create awareness amongst rural children about Oral Hygiene and thus positively influence their physical and mental health.
· Address the preventive and curative needs of the rural children.
· Decrease caries incidence by at least 30-40%
· Increase Oral hygiene awareness by at least 50-60% in the 1st year and thus aid in overall physical and mental health and development of the child.

“Project Smile” is a comprehensive oral hygiene programme which not only will address the preventive & curative needs of the rural children but also creates awareness about dental diseases and their prevention among rural population at an early age.
To meet this end the hospital will conduct regular contact Programmes with the parents of the children. These Programme will help us gauge the impact the programme on the family and secondly provide an opportunity to re-enforce our message of good oral hygiene
Om Indu Rural Hospital aims at increasing the awareness about dental disease and their prevention among the rural population 1,00,000 ultimately resulting in better overall development of the children & society & reduce the incidence of dental caries and gingivitis

Activities
Dental Surgeon will coordinate all the activities with the help of Dental Assistant, Office Assistant. The Dental Surgeon will keep liaison with the various authorities involved from time to time and will be responsible for overall maintenance and use of the equipment.Dental Assistant will help in maintaining the dental equipment, where as the Office Assistant, (a computer operator cum assistant programmer) will help in maintaining records, preparation of reports, their timely updation etc. The Driver will be required for maintenance of the vehicle and transportation.
§ Project Planning, Monitoring & Reporting
Under this activity, the surveys will be conducted to know the progress/impact of the project. Accordingly, the targets will be identified/defined and corrective measures will be taken. The Performa will be designed for maintaining the records of visits, camps, dental check-up & treatment. The information will be compiled, monitored and progress reports will be compiled periodically and efforts will be made to make the information available on-line using Internet thru website. This activity will continue till the end of the project.

Awareness camps/presentations will be arranged in Schools with the help of School authorities, village panchayats for general public/parents. The literature/pamphlets will be distributed. The Dental Surgeon will liaison with school authorities.

§ Demonstration of proper brushing technique in the school.
Dental Surgeon will make regular visits in the schools to demonstrate the brushing techniques to the rural children in batches and educate students about dental health care and its importance. The Dental Assistant will assist the Dental Surgeon.
§ Complete dental check-up of all students.
Dental Surgeon will conduct a complete dental check-up of all the students and will maintain the record of brushing patterns & dental status of each student. The check-up will take place in the schools. Dental Assistant will assist the dental surgeon in dental examination. The driver will take necessary equipment using the mobile van.

§ Conduct inter-active sessions with the children and their parents in school/hospital.
Based on the dental check-up, the Dental Surgeon will conduct contact Programmes with the parents of the children either in the schools or in the hospital to convey the message to the community and sharing the facts, findings during the check-ups.
§ Provide free dental treatment to affected children in hospital.
Under the project free treatment will be provided to the students diagnosed with dental disease. After liaison with the school authorities, the driver will bring the students to the base hospital and will leave them back to school after treatment by the Dental Surgeon. Dental Assistant will assist the dental surgeon in treatment, maintenance and sterilization of instruments. The project team will maintain complete follow up records of each student.
