Language Requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate
Students / Students whose first language is not English must have the language proficiency report completed and signed by a professional language instructor as part of their application. A good knowledge of English is required in order to successfully follow the courses offered to exchange students. English-language courses aimed at improving students’ English language skills are not offered.
Linnaeus University does not require students to complete an English test prior to arrival. However, it is strongly recommended that a student’s knowledge of English is at least equal to a score of 530 for the paper-based TOEFL test.

Restrictions for Exchange Students / All programmes, full-semester courses and freestanding courses on our homepage under exchange students are open to exchange students, provided the student fulfils the prerequisites for the course and there are places available on the course.
Swedish Course / Non-Credit Introductory Swedish
Linnaeus University offers an optional non-credit introductory Swedish course free of charge. This course is offered in addition to the normal study programme.
Credit Introductory Swedish
Linnaeus University also offers a 7.5 credits (7,5 ECTS credits) course in Swedish. This course is only available to students who make up their individual study plan by combining single subject courses.
Full-time Course Load (how many credits per course) /

30 credits (30 ECTS credits) per semester are considered full-time studies. Freestanding courses can consist of 5 credit points to 15 credit points per course. When a student applies, the total number of credits applied for is considered.

Other Important Information for Exchange Students / Please note that students cannot apply for individual modules in a full-semester course or programme. Students may only follow ONE of the full semester courses or programmes OR create their own curriculum by combining different freestanding courses. Students may also add a freestanding course to a full-semester course or programme. Please see the homepage for information on schools offering full-semester courses, programmes or freestanding courses.
Full-semester/Full-year course:
Several modules combined making up 30 credits (30 ECTS) per semester.
Module:
Several modules make up the full-semester/full-year course or programme. Modules cannot be taken individually.
Freestanding courses:
Courses which are combined to make up a full-time course load of 30 credits (30 ECTS).
Programme:
A full year programme on second level.
From 1 July 2007 the Swedish academic system has changed and adapted to the Bologna process. There are two cycles, First cycle (Bachelor´s degree) and Second cycle (Master 60 or 120 credits).
Transcripts and Grades / Erasmus students
The International Relations Office sends an official transcript directly to the student upon completion of the exchange period. Upon request one copy of the student’s transcript will also be sent to the student’s home university.
Other students
The International Relations Office sends an official transcript to the student’s home university upon completion of the exchange period to be forwarded to the student.
Transcripts are mailed out after each semester meaning that students do not have to wait until the end of the academic year to receive their transcripts.
In Sweden there are only two passing grades: Pass and Pass with Distinction. ECTS grades can be obtained upon request by the student at the beginning of each course/module.

Insurance Requirements /

Students are responsible for providing their own insurance. All students MUST be insured while in Sweden. Exchange students are covered by the “Student IN” insurance while at Linnaeus University.
