Course Description:

This course provides an overview of Hawaii past and present. Students will examine the historical, geographical, social, political, and economic factors that have influenced modern Hawaii. Through specific people, events, and issues student will evaluate their/its effect on Hawaii’s development.

Standard 3: Standard 3: History: MODERN HAWAIIAN HISTORY-Understand important historical events in Modern Hawaiian History.

Standard 4: Standard 4: Political Science/Civics: GOVERNANCE, DEMOCRACY, AND INTERACTION-Understand the purpose and historical impact of political institutions, the principles and values of American constitutional democracy, and the similarities and differences in government across cultural perspectives.

Grading Policy:

Grades will be based on an accumulation of points each quarter based on current events, daily work/homework, tests/quizzes, projects/presentations, and participation/behavior. Semester grades will be an average of both quarters.

Scale:90 – 100% A

80 – 89%B

70 – 79%C

60 – 69%D

59% or less F

One current event is due every week. Articles must be about events/issues that influence Hawaiisocially, politically, or economically.

Students must bring a notebook to class daily.

Attendance:

Students are expected to attend all classes. An excused verification form from the office is needed to get make-up assignments.

Classroom Rules:

  1. Be on time & ready to learn
  2. Come to class prepared/All work should be done in a notebook
  3. You must have a school I.D
  4. Any destructive behavior will result in a referral to the office.

  3. All bags must be on the ground or away from you.

All Ch. 19 rules will be enforced

Consequences:

  1. First Offense = Warning
  2. Second Offense = In class detention (recess)
  3. Third Offense = Referral to office/Call Parents
