Emergency Action Plan for Location
Trip Dates
Safety is our primary concern for all service trip experiences. The following Emergency Action Plans are recommended as ways in which Villanova University may act promptly and efficiently in meeting overseas emergencies for all Villanova students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
In emergency situations, the adult advisor will first contact the Villanova University Coordinator to review the facts. (Please note, if this is a true medical emergency, seek medical attention immediately). The Coordinator will then review the known facts and implement the procedures of the University’s response, which may include contacting International SOS as outlined below.
The following assistance is provided by International SOS:
1. Medical Assistance including referral to a doctor or medical specialist, medical monitoring when you are hospitalized, emergency evacuation to an adequate facility, and medically necessary repatriation.
2. Personal Assistance including pre-trip medical referral information, emergency medication, embassy and consular information, lost document assistance, translator/interpreter access, medical benefits verification, legal referrals and medical claims assistance.
3. Travel Assistance including emergency travel arrangements, return of traveling companion/dependents, and return of vehicle.
Call International SOS when you need:

Contacting International SOS:
1. You have been provided an International SOS membership card. Carry the International SOS card with you at all times. It includes telephone numbers for the Scholastic Alarm Center (our primary contact) as well as of the three major worldwide International SOS Alarm Centers which connects you to a network of multilingual specialists for immediate help in an emergency.

3. If you have pre-trip questions about your travel destination or questions about the current status in that location, you can access Country and Security Guides at www.internationalsos.com and use your membership number (Plan Number: 11BYSG000006) to login.
When you call International SOS, please be prepared with the following information:
1. Name of caller, phone number, fax number, relationship to patient;
2. Patient’s name, location, age, sex and nationality
3. The program with which you are associates: Villanova University abroad program in ______
4. Your International SOS membership number: Plan Number: 11BYSG000006
5. The telephone number from which you are calling (in case you are disconnected)
6. Name, location, and telephone number of hospital or clinic (if applicable);
7. Name, location, and telephone number for the treating doctor; where and when the doctor can be reached;
8. Health insurance information, worker’s compensation insurance information if the affected individual is a University employee, or automobile insurance information if involved in an automobile accident.

US Embassy Information:
Americans living or traveling in Location are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration web site and to obtain updated information on travel and security within Location. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency.
The latest security information is available from the Embassy, including its web site, http://www.usembassy.gov/.The Consular Section is open for citizen services, including registration, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Fridays, excluding U.S. and Location holidays. The second and last Friday of each month are reserved for administrative matters; therefore, routine citizen services are not provided. Emergency services are available at all times. The U.S. Embassy is located in Location and Address; telephone during Embassy business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), or emergency phone number for emergencies during non-business hours; fax; Internet web site for Location’s page of the US Embassy web site.
Please note, the Villanova University site contact or the affected individual, if able, must complete the
Incident/Accident/Injury Report as soon after the incident as possible.
