1GENERAL

1.04ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
.1Co-ordination: Co-ordinate work of this Section with work of other trades for proper time and sequence to avoid construction delays.
.2Pre-Application Meeting: Convene pre-application meeting after Award of Contract and one week prior to commencing work of this Section to verify project requirements, substrate conditions and coordination with other building sub-trades, and to review manufacturer’s written application recommendations.
.1Comply with Section 013119Project Meetings and co-ordinate with other similar preapplication meetings.
.2Notify attendees 2 weeks prior to meeting and ensure meeting attendees include as minimum:
.1Owner;
.2Consultant;
.3Spray polyurethane foam insulation applicator;
.4Manufacturer’s Technical Representative;
.5Manufacturer’s third-party quality assurance provider.
.3Ensure meeting agenda includes review of methods and procedures related to medium density closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation application including co-ordination with related work.
.4Record meeting proceedings including corrective measures and other actions required to ensure successful completion of work and distribute to each attendee within 1 week of meeting.
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: Article below includes submittal of relevant data to be furnished by Contractor.
1.05ACTION AND INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS
.1Make submittals in accordance with Contract Conditions and Section 013300Submittal Procedures.
.2Product Data: Submit product data including manufacturer’s literature for medium density closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation components and accessories, indicating compliance with specified requirements and material characteristics.
.1Submit list on spray polyurethane foam insulation manufacturer’s letterhead of materials, components and accessories to be incorporated into Work.
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: In many projects, joint sealant, transition membrane, and one-component sealant foam are used to ensure no major gaps in the substrate need to be overcome by the spray foam insulation. It is important to see details of how this will be applied and how the spray polyurethane foam insulation is joined to the joint sealant.
.2Include details of insulation joints with sealants.
.3Include product names, types and series numbers.
.4Include contact information for Icynene and their representative for this Project.
.3Test Reports:
.1 Submit test reports showing compliance with specified performance characteristics and physical properties including thermal performance.
.4Field Reports: Submit third party inspection agency’s field reports within [10] days of agency representative’s site visit and inspection.
.5Sustainable Design (LEED).
.1LEED Submittals: In accordance with Section [013521– LEED Requirements]
.6Applicator Qualifications:
.1Submit letter on spray polyurethane foam insulation manufacturer’s letterhead verifying applicators’s license for work similar to work of this Section.
1.06CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS
.1Operation and Maintenance Data: Supply maintenance data for [foamed-in-place insulation]for incorporation into manual specified in Section 017800Closeout Submittals.
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: If LEED is not a part of the project delete the following Paragraph in its entirety.
.2Sustainable Design Closeout Documentation (LEED).
.1Provide calculations on end-of-project recycling rates, salvage rates, and landfill rates for work of this Section demonstrating percentage of construction wastes which were recycled.
.2Submit verification from recycling facility showing receipt of materials.
.3Record Documentation: In accordance with Section 017800Closeout Submittals.
.1List materials used in foamed-in-place insulationwork.
.2Warranty: Submit warranty documents specified.
1.07QUALITY ASSURANCE
.1Sustainability Standards Certification (LEED).
.1LEED Canada-NC submittals: in accordance with Section 013521LEED Requirements.
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: Retain the following paragraph only when the area covered by the insulation exceeds 2,300 square metres.
.2Mock-up: Construct full size [3 x 3 m] mock-up of spray polyurethane foam insulation using proposed procedures, materials and quality of work where directed by Consultant [and in accordance with Section 014300Quality Assurance].
.1Include [window] [and] frame [and sill], insulation, [building corner condition,] [junction with roof system] [and] how materials interface with sealants.
.2Purpose: To judge quality of work and material application.
.3Allow Consultant [24] hours minimum prior to inspection of mock-up.
.4Do not proceed with work prior to receipt of written acceptance of mock-up by Consultant.
.5When accepted, mock-up will demonstrate minimum standard of quality required for work of this Section.
.6Approved mock-up will [not] remain part of finished work.
.3Applicator Qualifications: Verify that applicator of spray polyurethane foam insulation is currently licensed by manufacturer.
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: The following Article although not part of Quality Assurance, can be used to enhance the quality of materials by ensuring that they are delivered and handled properly at the work site.
1.08DELIVERY STORAGE AND HANDLING
.1Delivery and Acceptance Requirements:
.1Deliver material in accordance with Section 016100Common Product Requirements.
.2Deliver closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation materials and components in manufacturer’s original packaging with identification labels intact and in sizes to suit project.
.3Storage and Handling Requirements: Store materials off ground and protected from exposure to harmful weather conditions and at temperature conditions recommended by manufacturer.
.4Packaging Waste Management:
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: For smaller projects that do not have a separate Section for waste management and disposal, delete the following paragraph.
.1Separate and recycle waste packaging materials in accordance with Section 017419Construction Waste Management and Disposal.
.2Remove waste packaging materials from site and dispose of packaging materials at appropriate recycling facilities.
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: For smaller projects that do not have a Waste Management Plan, delete the option referring to a Waste management Plan.
.3Collect and separate for disposal paper and plastic material in appropriate on-site storage containers for recycling[ in accordance with Waste Management Plan].
1.09WARRANTY
.1Project Warranty: Refer to Contract Conditions for project warranty provisions.
.2Manufacturer’s warranty: Submit, for Owner’s acceptance, Icynene’s standard warranty document executed by authorized company official. Icynene’s warranty is in addition to and not intended to limit other rights Owner may have under Contract Conditions.

.2Vapour Permeability: To ASTM E96, 56 ng/Pa.s.m2 at 50 mm thickness.
.3Water Absorption % by Volume: To ASTM D2842, 0.40 %.
.4Flame Spread: To CAN/ULC S102 (S127), 290.
.5VOC’s: To CAN/ULC-S774: Pass.

3EXECUTION
3.01Applicators
.1Use only Icynene licensed applicators for work of this Section.
3.02EXAMINATION
.1Verification of Conditions: Verify that conditions of substrate previously installed under other Sections or Contracts are acceptable for closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation application in accordance with manufacturer’s written recommendations.
.1Visually inspect substrate in presence of Consultant.
.1Ensure substrates are clean of oil or excess dust.
.2Ensure that there is no surface spalling.
.3Ensure sealants completely fill gaps in substrate and at joints and are applied in accordance with Section [079200Joint Sealants].
.2Inform Consultant of unacceptable conditions immediately upon discovery.
.3Proceed with application only after unacceptable conditions have been remedied and after receipt of written approval to proceed from Consultant.
3.03preparation
.1Remove loose or foreign matter, which might impair adhesion of materials.
.2Fill open joints and voids in concrete greater than 25 mm.
.3Ensure substrates are free of surface moisture prior to application of closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation .
3.04Application
.1Apply medium density, closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation to CAN/ULC-S705.2.
.2Site mix liquid components in accordance with manufacturer’s written recommendations.
.3Spray apply medium density closed-cell polyurethane foam insulation evenly in 15 mm to 50 mm thick increments as indicated.
.1Thickness: [15] mm minimum, [50] mm maximum.
.4Perform Work in accordance with manufacturer’s written recommendations.
3.05FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
.1Field Inspection: Coordinate field inspection in accordance with Section [014500Quality Control].
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: Modify site visit requirements for smaller projects.
.2Third Party Inspection Agency: Co-ordinate third party inspection agency services with Section [01 45 00 - Quality Control].
.1Schedule site visits to review work at stages listed:
.1Twice during progress of work at 25% and 60% complete.
.2Upon completion of Work, after cleaning is carried out.
.3Report deficiencies immediately to Consultant.
.4Obtain reports within [10] days of review and submit immediately to Consultant.
.2Site Application Tolerances:
.1Thickness: ± 6 mm of thickness indicated.
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: Specify requirements if manufacturer’s technical representative is to provide field quality control with onsite personnel for instruction or supervision of product installation, application, erection or construction. Manufacturer’s field reports are included under PART 1, Action and Informational Submittals.
.3Manufacturer’s Services:
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: Use the following Paragraphs only when Icynene’s field services are provided and are required to verify the quality of the applied components. Establish the number and duration of periodic site visits required by Icynene and specify below. Consult Icynene for services required. Delete if field services are not required.
.1Co-ordinate manufacturer’s services with Section [01 45 00 - Quality Control].
.1Have manufacturer’s technical representative review work involved in handling, application and protection of closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation, and submit written reports in acceptable format to verify compliance of Work with Contract conditions.
.2Manufacturer’s Field Services: Provide manufacturer’s field services consisting of product use recommendations and periodic site visits for product application review in accordance with manufacturer’s written recommendations.
.1Report any inconsistencies from manufacturer’s recommendations immediately to Consultant.
.3Schedule site visits to review work at stages listed:
.1After delivery and storage of closed-cell spray polyurethane foam insulation, and when preparatory work on which Work of this Section depends is complete, but before application begins.
.2Upon completion of Work, after cleaning is carried out.
3.06CLEANING
ICYNENE GUIDE NOTE: For smaller projects that do not have a separate Division 01 Section for cleaning, delete the reference to Section 01 74 00 – Cleaning in the following two Paragraphs.
.1Progress Cleaning: Perform cleanup as work progresses [in accordance with Section 017400Cleaning and Waste Management].
.1Leave work area clean at end of each day.
.2Final Cleaning: Upon completion, remove surplus materials, rubbish, tools, and equipment [in accordance with Section 01 74 00 – Cleaning and Waste Management].
.3Waste Management:
.1Co-ordinate recycling of waste materials with 017419Construction Waste Management and Disposal.
.2Collect recyclable waste and dispose of or recycle field generated construction waste created during construction or final cleaning related to work of this Section.
.3Remove recycling containers and bins from site and dispose of materials at appropriate facility.
3.07PROTECTION
.1Protect appliedmaterials from damage during construction.
.2Repair damage to adjacent materials caused by medium density closed-cell spray polyurethane foam Insulation application.
