CHARTER SCHOOL APPLICATION GUIDELINES
INSTRUCTIONS
Letter of Intent (Exhibit A)
Each applicant may submit a letter of intent to the District by June 1, 2014. Although the letter of intent is requested by the District, it is optional. A sample Letter of Intent is included in this package to serve as a guide (see Exhibit A). The letter should be mailed to:

Application Process
A written application shall be submitted adhering to guidelines set forth in the Collier County Public Schools Charter School Application Submission Instructions. Detailed below are the components of the Charter School Application package.
IMPORTANT NOTE: CCPS shall reject any application that does not meet or comply with statutory requirements for following the FLDOE application format.
Application
Collier County Public Schools only accepts the Model Charter School Application issued by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). Please utilize the correct charter application for the purpose and intent of the charter school. All Model Charter School Applications and Evaluation Tools can be located at Florida Department of Education, School Choice page.

· Review the brief description of the standards that may be used to review your application, which follows each question in the charter application. Review the evaluation tool for additional guidance on the criteria used to evaluate your application. These review standards are not intended to be exhaustive or prescriptive, but rather, should serve as a helpful guide to formulate your responses.
· Answer all questions on the Florida DOE Charter School Application.
o In the correct order.
o Using the same numbering system.
o Don’t forget to tell how it will be done.
o Be specific about the curriculum and what the school will offer. Do not provide a laundry list of programs or academies that the school may offer.
· Provide information in the correct section of the application.
o Reviewers are assigned sections of the application.
§ If the material is not in the appropriate location it will not be scored.
§ Reviewers will not search the document to locate the answer.
· Present the application in an organized and properly labeled manner. Use tabs to identify each section of the application and have pages numbered consecutively throughout the application.
· Font size should be 12. The application, including appendices, shall be written and numbered using Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel. Only those supporting documents that are not originals, or received from outside sources, may be scanned and submitted in .pdf format (i.e., Articles of Incorporation, letters of support).
· Include the additional application components required by Collier County Public Schools, as permitted by charter law, as part of the charter application submitted by August 1st.

Helpful Hint: An overarching consideration for each application will be the extent to which the proposed charter school will substantively meet the requirements as specified in Section 1002.33 (2) (6) (a)1-5 and 6 (b)
2, Florida Statute.
The application package must be completed in its entirety. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications submitted without signatures are considered incomplete.
Application Package
The complete application package submission must include:
r two (2) paper originals of the application package, with original signatures
§ must be printed on 8.5 x 11 and printed on one side
§ three ring binder or bound
r fifteen (15) paper copies of the application package
§ printed on 8.5 x 11 and may be two-sided
§ three ring binder or bound
r twenty (20) electronic file copies on flash drives which contains an electronic copy of the COMPLETE charter application, including additional components required by Collier County Public Schools. The electronic copies must be in either Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF, no scanned copies will be accepted.
The entire application package must be submitted to the Department of Competitive Grants and Charter Schools, no later than 4:00 p.m. on August 1, 2014. All attachments accompanying the application must also be included on the flash drive in the same file with the application, and in the same document, to the extent possible.
