Customer Training Electrical Safety Policy
Mitsubishi Electric Power products (MEPPI) is committed to providing a safe working environment for all staff and visitors. This extends to the provision of a safe and reliable supply and use of electricity within the work environment, and compliance with relevant Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations.
Mitsubishi Electric aims to:
Ensure that staff and visitors in the facility are, as far as is reasonably practicable, safe from the risks of injury caused by electricity.
Ensure the safety of all electrical installations, equipment start-ups and associated equipment in the facility.
It is a requirement that the staff and visitors follow this Policy and associated procedures throughout the facility.
It is recognized that Mitsubishi Electric has unique requirements in the areas of AC/DC electrical equipment. It is a requirement of this Policy that all electrical work carried out in the facility is performed by appropriately trained and authorized persons, as specified in this Policy. Visitors are not be permitted to undertake any electrical work unless trained or under the supervision of an authorized person.
MEPPI shall not be responsible for any person properly assimilating, applying, using, practicing, or understanding the training or associated materials supplied in the process of training. Individuals who complete this training shall hold harmless and indemnify MEPPI against claims from third parties and damages arising out of the negligence of such individual’s operation or maintenance personnel in installing, operating, or maintaining the work connected to this training.
Hazard Identification
Attached you will find UPS System component location documents. These documents, listed below, identify the areas within the UPS Systems that are electrically energized. Please review these documents and familiarize yourself with the location of these disconnects before engaging in any operation, maintenance troubleshooting or repair of the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems.

Resources for identifying safety hazards
The Owners / Technical Manual (OTM) contain important safety information and operating instructions for the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems. Please read this information and familiarize yourself with the material before engaging in any operation, maintenance troubleshooting or repair of the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems.
MEPPI has made available the use of various test & measurement equipment for use in identifying electrically energized circuits. This equipment includes multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and other types of measuring instruments. Please familiarize yourself with the operation and use of this test equipment before using it in service. It is an MEPPI safety requirement to use the appropriate test instrument to measure for the absence of electrical energy before servicing or handling the electric and electronic components in the UPS System.
Requirements
Always wear eye, ear, skin and head protection when servicing electrical equipment as needed.
Wear rubber insulated leather gloves when near live electrical conductors.
Before performing maintenance, refer to maintenance procedure.
Before energizing verify and double check DC battery polarity for each string at the fuse, terminal block or DC breaker.
Before handling any assembly, check all circuit breakers and contactors are in the off position. Test for AC and DC voltages using an approved voltmeter.
Before handling any assembly, check that DC link capacitors are discharged with Digital Multi-Meter at 1000V dc scale.
To monitor the power circuit voltage with an oscilloscope, obtain their power, through an isolation transformer.
Never wear metal jewelry such as rings or watches when working on the UPS equipment.
Before performing service of the battery, observe safety precautions from the battery manufacturer.
To reduce the risk of fire, replace only with same type and ratings of fuse.
Keep door closed and secured during normal operations.
Before removing a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) or other electric components check that all the circuit breakers and contactors are off.
Do not operate without the side or back cover plates.
Do not operate without steel cover plates over the live parts.
As the UPS receives power from more than one source, disconnect the AC sources and the DC source before servicing. Use an approved Lock Out Tag Out Procedure if necessary.
Hazardous live parts inside the UPS may be energized from the battery supply even when the input AC power is disconnected. Check for DC voltages.
As capacitor stores hazardous energy, do not remove the inside steel cover over the live parts for 5 minutes after disconnecting all sources of supply.
Do not touch the oscilloscope case to ground, when monitoring the power circuit voltage.
Response
In case of an emergency or injury Dial 911 then notify the MEPPI Operator by dialing 0.
