He was a physician and served the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church as a missionary in China. In 1927, though he was practicing medicine at Brewster, Putnam Co., NY where he had bought out Dr. Boynton's practice. In 1945 he was serving with the US Army in China.
Alexander married, first, RUTHDAKIN FERGUSON who died on 11 Feb 1932. He married, second, GLADYS MELDRUM. She had been previously married to Charles Robert Burr, by whom she had a daughter Shirley Ann who married John Moore and lived in Tennessee. Gladys died in 1985. Alexander died on 1 Dec 1972. In a 28 Feb 1981 letter, Alfred recalled some Vanderburgh lore: "One of the Vanderburghs in Holland acquired a bible in 1534. Fled to England - Returned after the defeat of the Spanish Armada. His descendants brought the bible with them to the new world. I saw it once but not being able to understand a word of German at the age of 11 I don't know how old it was. I knew it had several pages of births and deaths and marriages. My grandfather's father was supposed to have made the working model of the "Cleremont." Child:

After graduating from Yonker's High School, Bill worked for his father's Russell Electric Co. in New York City as a bookkeeper, estimator, and electrician. Then in 1909, he moved to Detroit to work as a bookkeeper for Gray Brothers Electric Co.

Around 1929, they separated and Frances, with her two children, returned to Pleasant Valley, NY. Here, Frances raised her two children and married ARTHUR SHEROW, a widower. They lived on a farm in Pleasant Valley on Traver Rd. until the mid-1950s. At this time, Frances' son took over the farm, and Frances and Arthur retired to a home on Route 44 in Pleasant Valley. Arthur died in the late 1950s. Several years later, Frances moved to Rutland, VT, where she resided near her daughter.
