Subject: From Andrew Leung based in Hong Kong
Best personal greetings. May I first wish you a restful and enjoyable summer.
The China Rise story has been around for a long while, but is gathering unprecedented momentum. We are now seeing more waves than ripples all around. Following the Asian Pivot, a re-balancing of powers is intensifying. Regional and trans-Atlantic ties are shifting, as are dynamics in Africa. A sense of new direction is evident in Japan and begins to be palpable even in North Korea. Despite their huge differences, the BRICS countries are exploring common grounds for cooperation.
Inside China, an urgency for re-balancing and structural change is raising great expectations. When will the RMB become a fully convertible international currency? How real and sustainable is the China Dream? Would China be able to overcome the Middle Income Trap? Would the One Child Policy be changed?
Following are links to some up-to-date critical analyses of these issues. If you are too busy right now, you may wish to save this page with the links for more leisurely reading, perhaps by the poolside, far from the madding crowd.
