General Scholarship Application

Each of these scholarships has a specific purpose, selection and eligibility criteria. Careful review will be made of all applications. Scholarship money will be sent to the educational institution in which the candidate is enrolled.

Exchange Club: Award to one male and one female who demonstrate exemplary efforts in service to school, church, and/or community with significant leadership positions held.

Deadline: May 6, 2016 Scholarship Amount: $1,000

Lillian Bowman Kerby Memorial Scholarship: Established in 1995 to honor the memory of Lillian Bowman Kerby, WHS graduate and teacher in area schools. Her family established the award to commemorate her many admirable qualities including:

  • Strong character
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Diligence

Deadline: May 6, 2016 Scholarship Amount: $300

Lemons Scholarship: Established in 2006 in recognition of the retirement of Dr. T. Lowell Lemons as Superintendent of Waynesboro Public Schools. Scholarship criteria:

  • Financial need
  • Academic Achievement
  • Balance of interests/activities
  • Motivation/interest in education career

Deadline: May 6, 2016 Scholarship Amount: $500

Roger Zimmerman (Mr. “Z”) Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship was established in 2015 to honor the memory and legacy of Roger Zimmerman, WHS Choral Music Teacher, 1960 until retirement in 1990. Mr. Z organized the Concert Choir of WHS, which continues to perform today. He also developed a high school music program second to none in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The WHS Concert Choirs became known as “Singing Ambassadors” and performed throughout the Commonwealth and the U.S. East Coast. Mr. Z’s students learned not only to sing correctly, but also to feel and understand the music which they performed. He was not only a music teacher, but also a music appreciation teacher. He made it clear that music was much more than a high school subject; he emphasized that music could be life enhancing. Scholarship criteria:

  • Financial need
  • Academic achievement
  • Motivation and interest in a music education career
  • Active member of the WHS Music Department (can be substituted for music education degree interest)
  • Demonstrate a love of music
