Seagate Technology:

Seagate wishes to gain access and develop a relationship with the best Computing students at Queen’s University Belfast. Access to these students will put Seagate at an advantage when it comes to recruiting the best, and most able graduates, in what is a highly competitive market.

Seagate Technology Scholarship

Terms:

·  Seagate Technology will offer a one-off scholarship for 1 Full Time student enrolled on the BSc Honours Computer Science/BEng Honours Computer Science/MEng Computer Science course, valued at £2200 per annum plus £200 Book & Software Allowance during Year 2 and Year 4, as well as a paid placement in Year 3 (subject to availability). The scholarship will commence at the completion of year 1, and will be subject to maintaining a minimum year average of 65%.

·  The deadline for submission of applications is set at 12.00 noon on Wednesday 18th March 2015. All completed application forms should be returned in pdf format by email to the following email address: with the following in the subject line: “Seagate Bursary”. ·  A selection panel chaired by the Careers & Placement Liaison Advisor for Computer Science at Queen’s University of Belfast will collate and filter all applications which meet the criteria outlined by Seagate Technology before passing a maximum of 5 onto Seagate Technology.

·  The criteria outlined to apply for a scholarship include a requirement for an overall year average mark of 65% and above. In addition, the applicants must be willing to participate in a placement at the Seagate Facility in Springtown, Derry/Londonderry.

·  Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend for interview and assessment by Seagate Technology.

·  The scholarship will be formally awarded to the successful student in a ceremony attended by the representatives from The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as by representatives from Seagate Technology.

·  The successful student will participate in a placement during the academic year 2015/2016. The exact dates to be negotiated between the student and the Seagate mentor(s). The student will receive the standard Seagate Technology rate of pay on a pro rata basis for this placement.

·  Any additional cost incurred such as travel and accommodation shall be the responsibility of the scholarship student.

·  The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will provide local liaison and academic support at Queen’s University Belfast.

·  Seagate Technology will support the scholarship student with advice and direction in relation to a project/dissertation.

·  Seagate Technology will offer continued mentoring to the scholarship student throughout their academic studies, possibly including any required final year project.

·  The continuation of a student’s bursary into the next academic year is subject to the student maintaining an overall year average mark equal to or above 65%, and an annual review by Seagate Technology in consultation with Queen’s University Belfast. Failure to maintain these marks may result in Seagate terminating sponsorship of the student.

·  The student will be expected to participate in careers-related events describing their work-placement experiences to the next generation of students.

·  If the scholarship student either terminates/switches or pauses their studies, Seagate Technology must be notified. In the case of a temporary pause in the studies, agreement to defer the scholarship is at the discretion of Seagate Technology following consultation with Queen’s University Belfast.

·  Seagate Technology will give sufficient notice of termination of sponsorship or placement opportunities.

·  The panel’s decision will be final, and applications submitted after the closing date will not be considered.

Candidate Acknowledgment:

I acknowledge and agree that Seagate Scholarship is conditional upon my remaining a student on the Computer Science course, maintaining a minimum overall year average mark of 65% and participating in the Placement as detailed above. I further acknowledge and agree that if I receive payments from the Seagate Scholarship and subsequently terminate my studies on the Computer Science course, take a leave of absence from my studies or do not participate in the Placement as detailed above (for any reason other than a termination of the Placement programme by Seagate Technology), then I may have to repay to Seagate Technology some or all of the payments that have been made to me in the preceding 12 months. I understand that nothing in this agreement should be regarded as a guarantee of paid employment with Seagate Technology.
