Our school is a happy school which is founded upon a strong tradition of encouraging children to develop a caring and thoughtful approach to others. SCHOOL ORGANISATION

We have 243 children currently on roll in our one form entry Nursery and Primary school. The children are taught in mixed ability classes according to school year group. We use a variety of teaching methods and organisation to ensure our children raise their achievement and enjoy their learning. Whole class teaching, group work and individual teaching are all used. Teachers, Learning Support Assistants, parents and friends of the school all work together to enhance the learning opportunities offered to our children.

The successful applicant will:

  • have a commitment to working within the caring Christian ethos of the school, carrying out its aims, working in partnership with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and all school staff and Governors.

  • have experience and knowledge of supporting children, preferably at both Key Stages, in the school setting;

The successful applicant may have a current First Aid qualification.

  1. Job Outline

a)Aims of the Position

  • To provide high level support to teachers in the management of pupils’ learning.

b)Duties and Responsibilities

The jobholder need not fulfill all of the duties listed below but should have the ability to fulfil all or most of them.

  • Attend to pupils’ personal needs, including social, health, hygiene, first-aid and welfare matters.
  • Prepare classrooms and clear afterwards and assist with the display of pupils’ work.
  • Provide clerical/admin support, eg photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money, record keeping.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of learning activities.
  • Accompany teachers and pupils on out-of-school activities and take responsibility for groups, under the direction of a teacher.
  • Administer routine tests.
  • Liaise with parents and carers, under the direction of a teacher.
  • Assist with the development of individual education plans and personal care programmes.
  • Supervise and provide individual support for pupils with identified Special Educational Needs.

d)Health and Safety

f)Additional Information

The jobholder is required to:

  • support and foster the Aims, Vision Statement and Christian ethos of our School;
  • assist the whole school community with the educational needs of the pupils;
  • participate in training and other learning activities, and in performance management and development, as required by the school’s policies and practice.

The duties and responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present. The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary.

  1. Supervision

The post-holder is managed by the school’s Senior Leadership Team. The school’s performance management policies and practice determine the frequency of meetings.

The post-holder will not be expected to manage other staff, but may be asked to supervise volunteer helpers.

  1. Job Context

The job is one of a set of teaching assistant jobs whose evaluated pay grade is determined by the level of responsibilities. The lowest pay grade is at Level A and the highest at Level E.

The job holder is one of a team of teachers and assistants who support the learning of pupils. Flexibility by all staff is important in order to meet the varied needs of pupils.

The jobholder need not be required to fulfill all ofthe duties identified in the job description. But, in order to justify the pay grade,however, the jobholder must be spending at least 50% of his/her time on higher level duties.

The jobholder is managed by the Headteacher but may work with several teachers. The jobholder works under the day-to-day supervision of the teacher to whom he/she is assigned.

The set of job descriptions allows some employees to grow into the next job description, provided that:

a)the school has sufficient work of the right level that would justify the next job description, and

b)the jobholder has gained sufficient knowledge and skills, either through qualification or through experience, to fulfil the duties of the next job description.
