SFMS Art: Rules and Procedures

Starting in middle school art is a “real” subject with “real” grades. This contract clearly explains expectations. Please review and sign.

Work Ethic

School is your Job! Your teacher is your boss. Be prepared to work everyday and use your time effectively.

Be Prepared

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Be Creative

Responsibility

A sign of maturity is becoming responsible for your own actions and taking initiative to create your own success. It’s simple, make good decisions and do the right thing even when no one is looking; It is a sign of good character and how you earn respect.

Be prepared DAILY! Always come to class with a pencil and eraser.

Respect

Show respect to your teacher, classmates, and the art room. Everyone in this room, including you, deserves to be shown respect. If you choose to be disrespectful, how can you begin to earn respect from others? Be respectful and you will earn respect from your peers and teachers.

Discipline

Failure to follow rules will result in a loss of art room privileges (reports and essays instead of projects) detention or office referral. With any disciplinary action, a call and/or email will be sent to parents/guardians. Participation points will be taken away for any class disruptions, disrespect, lack of class preparation, and lack of participation.

Equipment

The Art room has a variety of materials and equipment. There are specific rules for each piece of equipment. Improper use of equipment can permanently destroy the equipment and can hold up the class for several days. You can be dropped from this course if you refuse to follow these rules.

Technology

You are not allowed to use your phone or any other non-school issued device during class. If you using a non-school issued device in class, your phone or device will be given to the office for the remainder of the day and can be picked up at the end of the school day.

Exception: Occasionally you may use your phone to look up reference images for projects.

Demonstrations

Art teachers rely on demonstrations rather than lecturing. Demonstrations usually take place at the beginning of the class. Do not interrupt demonstrations with chatter and inappropriate questions. If you miss demos you will need to find a peer tutor to help you catch up. Again, show respect and you will be shown respect.

Classroom Website

Assignments, Lessons, Resources, Rubrics, and additional classroom information will be posted on my SFMS website and blog is updated weekly and sometimes daily; therefore, become familiar with my website (click on Visual Arts, then my name on the SFMS website): http://schillingfarmsms.colliervilleschools.org

Extra Credit:

All extra credit must be turned in one week before the end of each 9 weeks. Extra credit turned in after this date will not be accepted but can be applied to the following semester. Up to 5 extra credit points total will be offered per semester.

Late Work:

If students need extended time to complete a work of art, students may take the work home to work on. They will receive zero class time to complete work after the due date. Artwork can be turned in 5 days late for full credit if arrangements are made with me. All work must be turned in one week before grades are due for report cards. If work is not turned in within 5 days of the due date, the student will receive 10 points off for each day it is late.
