2013 SOUTH ZONE CROSS COUNTRY
JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH

LOCATION: Echo Dale Regional Park, Medicine Hat
Turn north off Highway 3 at Hwy 523 (Holsom Road) - look for the Spitz building; ie. just before the Medicine Hat Airport. Follow the directional signs to Echo Dale Regional Park (approx. 8 km). There is ample parking for buses.
TIME: One walk-thruat 9:45 amThe Jr. HIGHwalk-thru is approximately 40 minutes for 3km under. Course maps will also be available in the morning.
All athletes and coaches are recommendedto be at a walk-thru in order to familiarize themselves with the course. The walk through will start on time. The course is a one loop for all distances. The 4, 5, and 6 km walk throughathletes will need to be aware that there will be races on the course during their walk through. The athletes will need to be aware and move over to let athletes go by. Coaches please speak with your athletes prior to zones about respecting the course and not tearing the course markings.
Eagle Butte High School also will be running their 10th Annual Talons Invitational on Sept. 21. They will be running their races on the same course as Zones.
COURSE DESCRIPTION SPIKES ARE NOT RECOMMENDED. The course consists of grass, asphalt, single track trail, shale trails as well as hills and one water crossing area (we may have a bridge in place) it’s not deep just a little water. However, they will get their feet wet.
ENTRY FEE: $4.00 per competitor. There is no limit to the number of entries per school. Cheques for Jr and Sr High athletes should be separated. Payment due on registration - all athletes registered will be charged (including no-shows).

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, Oct 2 Email Hy-Tek entries to Marg Derbyshire To do this, you will need the Meet File, available from Marg, and the Hy-Tek Lite program which you can download free from Hy-Tek. If Hy-Tek is not possible, please use the Excel spreadsheet.
Senior High athletes must also be registered on-line with ASAA by Oct 5 ... do this at
ALL STARTING TIMES ARE APPROXIMATE. RUNNERS SHOULD REMAIN NEAR THE MARSHALING AREA AND CHECK WITH OFFICIALS. RACES MAY START EARLIER.

AWARDS: Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers and ribbons will be awarded for 4th through 15th place in the Junior High events and 4th through 18th in the Senior High events.
The Sr High School events in this meet act as the qualification for the 2013 ASAA Provincial Cross Country Championships to be held at Drayton Valley Oct 19. The top eighteen (18) athletes in each race qualify for the Provincials; however, THEY MUST DECLARE THEIR INTENTION TO COMPETE IN THE PROVINCIALS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE RACE. Coaches: please have your Senior High athletes prepared to say YES or NO to Provincials. If any of the top 18 finishers in a race declareNOT to attend the Provincials, then the next highest finishers will have the opportunity to participate. The deadline to change entries is noon, the Wed before Provincials. There are NO SUBSTITUTES allowed on the Provincial date. Marg will look after registration for Provincials and will be the Zone Coach at Provincials.
CONCESSION: A concession will be open.
RESULTS: Results will be posted for viewing as soon as our Results Committee compiles them.
PROTESTS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE MEET COMMITTEE, WHOSE DECISION WILL BE FINAL.
