Hours of work: (a) Full-time: 40 per week (dependent on programming); or,
(b) Part-time: range typically 12 – 40 per week
Required evening, weekend or holiday hours; flexibility in scheduling is necessary
Work period: April 30 – September 7 (19 weeks)

Position Summary:
Teach and facilitate the learning of theory and seamanship with both theory lessons and on-water drills as mandated by the CANSail Instructor certification. Responsible for the students’ safety and monitoring of the equipment. Participation in all staff training is required.
Experience and Qualifications:
1. Minimum grade 10 (preferably OSSD or equivalent), together with six (6) months experience in sailing instruction preferred
2. Currently certified in CANSail Instructor 1 & 2. CANSail Instructor 3 & 4 or higher an asset.
3. Valid Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C certificate
4. Hold a Sail Canada Coach Boat Safety certification or equivalent.
5. Valid Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card.
6. Registered and paid instructor dues with SailCanada for current year.
7. Maintain ‘Certified’ status with Canada’s National Coach Certification Program (NCCP).
8. VHS radio license an asset.
9. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
10. Understand and effectively carry out oral and written instruction.
11. Deal effectively with the public and staff.
12. Comfortable with teaching and supervising young students (age 8 and older).
13. Possess the ability to maintain docks and surrounding areas in a neat and orderly manner.
14. Sound knowledge of current sailing techniques and departmental procedures. Working knowledge of the Town of Collingwood’s policies, procedures and standards.
15. Considerable knowledge of applicable safety regulations.
16. Vulnerable Sector check with results satisfactory to the Town
