GLASSEY, ASHTON JOINED BY NEW NAMES IN INTERNATIONAL SINGLES PLAYOFFS

New Zealand numbers one and three Murray Glassey (Hawkes Bay) and Rob Ashton (Auckland) will be the heavyweights going into the Professional Bowls Association national playoffs for the NZ berth in the World Bowls Tour’s International Singles when the five venue winners line up in Dunedin next month. Glassey and Ashton won their second entry to NZ PBA Finals Weekend after both won their respective regional qualifiers for both the International Singles on Sunday and the Scottish Singles earlier in the winter.

The two guns will be joined by some fresh faces with the ever-improving NZ number sixteen Paul King winning in Dunedin, and two rookies taking out the other two venues - Hamish Simpson in New Plymouth, and Brad Allan in Invercargill.

Earlier in the weekend King lost his first PBA qualifier final with partner Aidan Lusby going down to NZ outdoor international Andrew Kelly (Canterbury) and member of the Scotty’s Meats NZ PBA team to play Australia at the end of this month Andy McLean in the Dunedin World Indoor Pairs qualifier final which had been held over from two weeks ago.
