6.6 Overtime
POLICYSTATEMENT
Overtime shall be defined as all work in excess of the applicable normal and/or regularly scheduled work day or the normal or regularly scheduled work week. All overtime worked must be pre-authorized by a Departmental Director or an authorized delegate.

AccumulationofOvertime
Union personnel will be allowed to accumulate up to a maximum of 80 hours overtime in a calendar year.
No time off will be allowed in lieu of overtime between June 1 and September 1 unless a waiver of these regulations is obtained from senior management and must be attributable to extenuating circumstances.
All accumulated overtime (for the previous year's overtime) shall be taken, at a mutually acceptable time, no later than the month of May 31st for the previous year’s overtime.
Any accumulated time remaining at the end of May will be paid out in June at the employee's current classified rate (NOTE: notattheratein whichthetimewasearned). Guards will continue to accumulate their banked, paid meal break premium without payout in June. NOTE: Capped at maximum of 96 hrs
Substitution overtime that is banked will be paid out at the employee's current rate of pay. It is therefore advised that overtime worked at a substitution rate be taken in pay at the time the overtime is worked.

6.6 Overtime
Meal Allowance
Meal allowances are paid in accordance with the applicable collective agreements for unscheduled overtime shifts or in emergency situations.
Standby Allowance
If an employee is performing substitution for a position superior to their regular position, standby will apply if authorized through scheduled rotation for the substituted position.
During substitution periods for Management positions it may be necessary to carry a pager to facilitate call out if required. This does not constitute grounds for standby provision unless specifically indicated by a Management supervisor.

When an employee accumulates a total of 48 hours of overtime, he/she must designate the use of 50% of those hours, within 30 days. The employee is to indicate at the start of each year how he will be taking his accumulated overtime -- in pay or as time off.
