The Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety invites all local news media to attend the presentation of this year’s Governor’s Challenge Vehicle to the Tennille, Georgia Police Department. Participation by the Tennille Police Department in campaigns such as Click It Or Ticket, Operation Zero Tolerance, and the 100 Days of Summer H.E.A.T. have helped prove that high-visibility enforcement of Georgia’s traffic laws is key to saving lives and reducing injuries on Georgia’s highways.
LAW ENFORCEMENT EXCELLENCE
Every year, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety presents the Governor’s Challenge Awards to recognize the outstanding performance of Georgia’s law enforcement officers. This year GOHS received a total of sixty-three applications from participating Georgia law enforcement agencies. Thirty-one of those agencies were recognized for excellence during the 2006 Governor’s Challenge Awards Banquet.
TENNILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HONORED
More than 500 officers, advocates, and elected officials were honored this year at the GeorgiaInternationalConvention Center. But only one agency took home the Governor’s Challenge Awards GrandPrize. Chief Joel Cochran and the Tennille Police Department are the winners of the fully equipped police pursuit package, 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, Governor’s Challenge Vehicle.The Annual Governor’sChallenge Awards recognize the dedication of Georgia traffic enforcement officers to slow down speeders, increase safety belt use, and reduce impaired and aggressive driving.
STATEWIDE RECOGNITION PROGRAM
The Governor’s Challenge is a statewide GOHS incentive program designed to award outstanding achievements in traffic safety enforcement and education. Georgia law enforcement agencies are judged on both the approach and effectiveness of their overall highway safety programs. Agencies are evaluated not just for enforcement initiatives, but for innovative problem solving programs in their communities.Through these ongoing GOHS initiatives, Georgia law enforcement agencies are accustomed to working together daily to promote traffic safety.
IMPAIRED DRIVING CRACKDOWN UNDERWAY
The Tennille Police Department is one of 500 law enforcement agencies conducting saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the state from Friday, August 18, through Monday, September 4, 2006 as part of the OPERATION ZERO TOLERANCELabor Day holiday impaired driving crackdown. Remember: Drunk Driving. Over The Limit. Under Arrest.
