LICENCE TYPE: SECURITY (ORGANISATION)

To enable accurate and timely processing, your renewal application must be lodged with the following supporting documentation for the relevant genuine reason(s) of:

Security (Organisation)
  • Security Firm Licence = A copy of a current Security Firms Licence (SFL) issued under the Security Providers Act 1993 in the name of your business.
  • Security Guard Weapons Register = A copy of the last two completed pages of your Security Guard's Register (Form 32).
  • Security Organisation Information = Provide written information that verifies there is a need for you to provide an armed service. Please supply a list of your contracted clients and letters on company letterhead which include the following information:

(a) The author's name, address and contact number;

(b) The nature of the services required by the business (e.g. cash escort);

(c) The frequency of the services required (e.g. twice per week);

(d) The perceived risks that require the possession of a weapon.

Failure to supply the supporting documentation required for this application will result in your application being delayed whilst Weapons Licensing make inquiries with you to supply this information. Information not supplied within a timely manner may result in your application being refused.

What Fees Are Payable For A Renewal Of A Licence?

  • The fees payable to renew a weapons licence is available on the Weapons Licensing internet site. Payment methods may vary at different establishments. Please note fees are subject to change.

How long will it take to get my licence card? And what if my licence card does not arrive by the time my licence expires?

  • Applications are being processed in order of expiry date and will be determinedas soon as practicableafter the application is made as required by theWeapons Act 1990 andWeapons Regulation 2016. The time taken to collate, record, assess and finalise applications is dependent on a number of factors. These factors can include the number of applications received, the complexity of the applications, the completeness of the application and the accuracy of information within the supporting documents.
  • If you have submitted your application prior to the expiry date and you do not receive your new licence card by the time your licence expires. Section 20A of the Weapons Act 1990provides; that a licence which an application is lodged before the day the licence expires, remains in force for up to 42 days after the expiry date or until an Authorised Officer renews the licence or rejects the application, whichever occurs first.

Lodging your renewal application on or after the expiry date?

  • In order to renew your weapons licence you must lodge your application at least one day prior to your licence expiry date.

If your licence expires, any current firearms in your possession must be lawfully disposed of immediately, as you will no longer be able to lawfully possess firearms or weapons until a current licence is issued.You will be required to lodge for a new licence application and pay an application fee for a new licence plus the licence fee for the number of years your licence is issued for.
