A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE LAURENS ACADEMY “CRUSADERS” AND THEIR COACH, TOMMY SPIRES, ON WINNING THE 2003 SCISA CLASS A BOYS’ BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK, COMPETITIVE SPIRIT, AND DEDICATION TO BECOME A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and
Whereas, to become a champion in basketball, all members of the team and the coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and
Whereas, with the guidance of Head Coach Tommy Spires and Assistant Coach Cliff Holsonback, the boys’ basketball team of Laurens Academy faced intimidating opponents and played tough games but were rewarded by being given the chance to become State Champions; and
Whereas, along their journey to the championship game, this team enjoyed victories and felt defeat but remained focused on their common goal of being named the best team in the State; and
Whereas, the Laurens Academy “Crusaders” ended their season with an impressive record of twentythree wins and five losses and, most importantly, captured the 2003 SCISA Class A Boys’ Basketball State Championship Title; and
Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Adam Brewer, Neal Culbertson, Bryson Graydon, Corey Graydon, Jimmy Poole, Rashawn Richardson, Jason Savage, Turner Smith, Thomas Todd, and Elliott Windsor; and
Whereas, with the support of their family, friends, and community, these young men have become champions both on and off the basketball court. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, wish to extend their congratulations to the Laurens Academy “Crusaders” and their coach, Tommy Spires, on winning the 2003 SCISA Class A Boys’ Basketball Championship and to commend them for their hard work, competitive spirit, and dedication to become a championship team.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the members of the Laurens Academy Boys’ Basketball Team and Coach Tommy Spires of Laurens.
