Dear 6th Grade Parents,

As part of our music curriculum, your child will be learning to play the Ukulele starting in the next few weeks! I am very excited to share that we have 20 brand new soprano ukulele’s! The ukulele, a string instrument, represents a wonderful opportunity to further the music reading skills your child has already begun. We hope by giving students a positive, enjoyable learning experience they will be encouraged to develop an even greater interest in music.

Since this year’s 6th grade class is rather large, we will begin with ukulele partners. I am hoping we will be able to purchase 6 more ukulele’s so we have enough for every student. If you already have a soprano ukulele at home and you are comfortable letting your child bring it to school, that would be wonderful! If you would like to buy a soprano ukulele, information on the ukulele’s we have school and recommended brands are below. Ordering an ukulele is NOT REQUIRED; many students enjoy the opportunity to have their own Ukulele to practice both at school and at home.

School owned ukuleles will be available for classroom use for students who do not make a purchase. Please note that these classroom items will need to be kept at school for music class use only.

Additional materials needed for class: a 3-ring binder and a pencil.

Additional materials will be provided by the teacher as needed.

Thank you,

Becky Lucarelli

Other good brands: Diamond Head, Soprano; Dean Mahogany, Soprano; Kala concert soprano

**Please know that “toy” ukulele’s found in gift shops/toy stores will not hold their tune and the strings break easily. Buy one from a reputable music store that has a good return policy if not satisfied!
