Alessandra Giovagnoli is now a Professor of the Alma Mater. She was full professor of Statistics at the Faculty of Economics, University of Bologna, and a member of the Department of Statistical Sciences. She was on the teaching board of the PhD Programme in "Statistical Methodology for Scientific Research". Previously she was associate professor of mathematics at the University of Perugia and professor of mathematical statistics at the University of Udine
Her main research area is Design of Experiments and sequential experiments. Another keen interest is stochastic order relations. She is also actively involved in some bio-medical and technological applications of statistics.
She graduated in mathematics at Rome University and later obtained an M.Phil. in Algebra and an M.Sc. in Statistics, both from the University of London. She has taken part in a very large number of national and international meetings and has acted as a referee for several national and international statistical journals. She served on the Editorial Board of Biometrika and was Associate Editor of SMA, the journal of the Italian Statistical Society.
She was a member of the International Statistical Institute and other scientific societies and from 1987 to 1992 was on the European Regional Committee of the Bernoulli Society. She has links with several statistics departments abroad and was Delegate of the Faculty of Economics (1996-2003) for the Socrates-Erasmus students and teachers exchange scheme.
In the past she has been involved in activities for promoting Equal Opportunities and Women in Science and is now a member of the Association of Academic Women of the University of Bologna (AdDU). Her hobbies are gardening and films. Also books and travelling.
