RTO-EDA Day 16 Feb 2011
Aim:Yearly meeting for feed back to and from the Belgian panel and CapTech participants
Interesting facts for RSTD-CSDS-CESD
- Attendees and Agenda : see Ann;
- ESA : Col E. Duhamel, who is also active in SCI panel, gave a briefing on links from ESA with EDA and RTO.
For research institutes there is a free access to ESA GMES (interesting for KMS(CISS) Damien Closson) (contacted after the meeting: he is aware of the possibilities)
MHKA has received a question from ESA (find out from who (Action Col Neirinckx)) regarding the use of the Hypobaric chamber; - AVT: Prof Hirsch very active since 1997 : candidate for Von Karman 2012? TBC
CDT ELROB Demo in Jun 2011 (Meerdaal); - A presentation on GEM 1 is asked for to Prof Rabet;
- A presentation on GEM 2 is asked for to Prof Lefebvre;
- HFM: 2 participants for PBM is sufficient, Evt (on call) Dr. Pattyn
a. Consider the bacteriofagen as a new niche?? Promising results up to now. Interesting links with
former USSR republics (e.g. Georgia)
b. Capt(sr) Dirk Adang active in HFM 184 (Bioeffects of Energetic electromagnetic Pulses)
Note: Capt(sr) Dirk Adang works for the moment at 29 Bn Log (Grobbendonk); - ESM4 : Since 2009 merge of HF and CBRN, Maj Vereycken is supported by LtCol (Med) JL Gala;
- IST
Active in Machine translation (Mr Pigeon) and SDR and cognitive Radio (LtCol Bart Scheers)
Other activities on POF/MOF (Capt S. Acheroy)
Capt(sr) Thierry Gérard is the new panel member
More visibility towards BEL universities would be nice (action Prof P. Verlinde); - SAS: LtCol F.Rouvroi moved from SAS to AVT
TBD on new voting member for SAS; - ESM 01 : CPF (Nav) Y.Dupont send a briefing, post meeting;
- SCI: very broad scope. A 3rd panel member is needed, Col Duhamel mainly focusing on Space activities.
The output of TG’s is mainly paper, concepts,..
exception: demo on combined manned-unmanned air vehicles (TUR?), looks very promising, but complicated.
challenges: Find/motivate people to participate in TG
Capt Ben Lauwens will send a list of studies/projects to RHID to prioritise; - SET
Ask Prof Verly if still interested in participating; - Discussion on niches:
Either better define niches (detail e.g. THz) or keep them broad (e.g. C4ISTAR). Recommendation of the group is to keep the niches broad enough.
Need for LIDAR as a new niche??
RHID is waiting for the STRAT-study on capabilities to (better) define other niches; - NMSG: not present; asked for presentation;
- IMC
Maj Jean-Paul Neckebroek asked to be replaced by DG JM Rep (Cdt Ambelakiotis and/or Col De Keyser). TBD later (or DG COM?); - IAP 01: Strong impression Prof P. Merken (not present) has never attended CapTech meetings.
Action: Contact Mr Merken to assess his past participations and future intentions. Consider his replacement.
Way ahead
-A better reporting (using the template) after each activity is asked for-Contacts with Belgium universities need to be reinforced.
-All presentations will be put on RHID website ( > presentations > presentation RHID
Recommandation for RHID/RSTD
-Decide on new voting member SAS-Consider Prof Hirsch for Von Karman Medal 2012
-Consider Bacteriofagen as new niche for call RHID 2013
-Send list of all CGE to CNC’s
-Consider giving (BEL, RHID,…) (scientific) Prio’s to panel members. SCI will send a list for prioritising
-Contact Prof Verly (SET)
-Replace Maj Neckebroek in IMC (DG JM or DG COM).
-Ask Prof Merken for his intentions; consider replacing him in IAP 01.
