Greetings RJR Families,
As you know, Mr. Olsen's last day at Reynolds was
Friday, March 27. He has served as the seventh
principal in Reynolds' 89-year history, devoting
countless hours to our teachers, staff, students and
families.
Leading a school with Reynolds' unique history, diversity
and programming is no simple task, and we are very grateful to Mr. Olsen for his time with us. On Thursday, March 26, along with WSFCS Superintendent Dr. Beverly Emory, we commemorated Mr. Olsen’s service to RJR with a portrait dedication, an a cappella serenade and a gift basket from faculty, staff and the PTSA.Please join us in wishing Mr. Olsen a fond farewell as he finishes his tenure at Reynolds.
Congratulations to seniors Corinne Spencer who was recently awarded the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill and to Hannah Semke who was named an N.C. State Park Scholar! We are incredibly proud of both of you!
Good luck to everyone as you wrap up the third quarter. We hope you enjoy a relaxing and safe Spring Break!
Warmest regards,
Kate and Alan Ruley
PTSA President and 2nd Vice President
A Cappella Groups Earn Honors at Wake Forest Competition
All three of RJR's a cappella groups -- Syncopate, A Cafellas and X – recently competed in the Wake-Appella Competition for high school and college groups on the campus of Wake Forest University at Wait Chapel. Groups from across North Carolina and as far away as Virginia came to the competition which was a WFU fundraiser for the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. More than $2,500 was raised at the event.
Congratulations to RJR’s Syncopate for being named the best high school a cappella group at the competition. Syncopate will receive a free custom arrangement for the group by the professional a cappella group, Snowday, which participated in the program.
Darron Hayes was named best high school a cappella soloist for his high-energy solo in "Kids”. A Cafellas won honorable mention (runner-up) for best high school a cappella group. All RJR groups performed arrangements written by the students.
RJR A Cafellas alum and former student director, John Gorelick (’13) who is now president of Plead the Fifth, a WFU men’s group, was one of the founders of this successful event. Another alum and former Syncopate member, Cameron Moore (’11) was there performing with ASU’s Enharmonix. Their group won best vocal percussion. UNC-G’s Spartones was recognized as the best college a cappella group.

Homecoming Tailgate 2015!
Would you like to be a part of the Homecoming Tailgate Party this year? We could really use volunteers to help with T-shirts (designing, ordering and selling), entertainment, volunteer corrdination and decorations.
The Homecoming football game will be on Friday, September 11th, so we need to start planning this spring and summer. This is an easy and fun way to volunteer and get involved early in the year! Email Ashby Hopkins for more details! .
