Kathy Leslie-Smedley, M.Ed., LPC-S, LMFT, LSOTP, NCC

Kathy has currently served almost 6000 children (alleged victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, witnesses of violent crime and mentally challenged adults) and their families as the Program Director for the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center, covering an eight county service area, since 1999. She is a trained Forensic Interviewer and has interviewed thousands of children, coordinates all the counseling services for the NETCAC, facilities the Multidisciplinary Teams (Prosecutors, Law Enforcement, Child Protective Service Investigators, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and Child Advocates) and provides court testimony as an Expert Witness. She has maintained a private practice for over twenty

years working with adults, marriages, families, adolescents, child play therapy and currently provides counseling for three juvenile probation department’s clients and their families. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Supervisor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider and a Nationally Certified Counselor, as well as an author of the book, The Faces of Child Abuse and writes a bi-monthly educational article for the NETCAC newsletter, and trainer and facilitator for over ten years for the Hope & Help for Children and Family Conference for the eight county service area. She founded the original Peer Review for Forensic Interviewers in Texas and currently facilities the Counselor Peer Review for the NETCAC counselors. Previously she was the Clinical Manger for Buckner Children’s Home in Dallas, a Clinician for the Family Life Counseling Center of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, and a Social Worker for the Methodist Children’s Home, in MS. She received her graduate degree from the University of North Texas and her undergraduate degrees from Mississippi College and Wesley College. She has been married over thirty years to her husband and sweetheart, Ron, and they pastor two churches in Winnsboro, and are the proud parents of four children (including twins).

Sean Stokes, Ph.D., LPC-S, LMFT & Board Approved Supervisor

Dr. Stokes is the founder / director of Lifeway Counseling Center. He earned his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in Marriage and Family Therapy, his M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and his B.S. in Human Development Family Studies from Texas Tech University.

Along with licensures as a Professional Counselor Supervisor and Marriage and Family Therapist Board Approved Supervisor,he is a qualified Divorce Mediator in the State of Texas, a Parenting Coordinator and Parenting Facilitator, trained in the PREP (Preventative and Relationship Enhancement Program) model, and is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). In 2011, he was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists where he serves on the Rules Committee as well as the Licensing Standards Committee.

Dr. Stokes is an Associate Professor at Texas Wesleyan University in the Graduate Counseling Program. He has also served as an Adjunct Faculty member for Liberty Christian University and Wayland Baptist University. He has published in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, the Journal of Divorce and Remarriage, and Contemporary Family Therapy: An International Journal. He has also co-authored two book chapters.

Lavelle Hendricks, Ed.D., LCDC, ADC, C-ART,President-Elect Texas CouncilOf Faculty Senates

Dr. LaVelle Hendricks joined the Texas A&M University at Commerce faculty in 2001.He currently serves as Student Affairs Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling. He has been involved in higher education and counselor education for 17 years. Dr. Hendricks’s background is in student affairs in higher education, including assistant director of a student center, director of student activities, associate dean of students and director of special programs. He is extensively involved in civic and community affairs including serving on the Board of Directors of the Commerce Habitat for Humanity, Board of Directors for the Northeast Drug and Alcohol Council, Board of Directors of the Northeast Texas Choral Society, Board of Trustees for Hopkins County Unity Among People. Dr. Hendricks has helped to develop tutorial programs for elementary and middle schools and is founder and director of “the Unfinished Agenda.” His professional membership includes the Texas Counseling Association, N.A.A.C.P., Southern Association for College Student Affairs, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His primary areas of research are multicultural education and the contemporary college student. In the department Dr. Hendricks usually teaches courses in student affairs, counseling diverse populations, and introduction to the counseling profession.

William R. (Bill) Mullener, MA, LPC, LCDC, NCC

Bill currently serves as a Licensed Professional Counselor and therapist for the Champions Christian Counseling Center in Tomball, TX. After receiving his B.B.A. in Business Management from Texas A&M University, Bill entered the U.S. Air Force and flew 146 combat missions in the AC-130 Gunship during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Air Medal with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He left active duty to take a position with Delta Airlines and rose to the rank of Captain on the MD-88, while maintaining his affiliation with the Air Force Reserves. He was recalled to active duty during the 1990 Desert Shield/Desert Storm operation in Iraq. He retired from Delta in 1996 and from the Air Force Reserves in 1997 with the rank of Lt. Col.

Bill has co-authored a textbook on Human Growth and Development as well as numerous articles published in The Family Journal, The Journal of Professional Counseling, and The Journal of Counseling and Development, among others. He is a member of the Texas Counseling Association, where he serves as a Senator for the Brazos Valley Counseling Association as well as the Chairman of the “Give an Hour” statewide task force. This is an initiative designed to provide pro-bono counseling to military members and their families. He was recently presented the Texas Counseling Association Distinguished Service Award for his efforts in that program. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, Chi Sigma Iota, and numerous other service and philanthropic organizations.
