Child Protection Policy
Introduction
Child protection is the process of protecting individual children identified as either suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm as a result of abuse or neglect. It involves measures and structures designed to prevent and respond to abuse and neglect.
Child abuse involves acts of commission and omission, which results in ham to the child. The four types of abuse are physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect.
The Dualing High School Annex- Katalicanan is committed to devising and implementing policies so that everyone in sport accepts their responsibilities to safeguard children from harm and abuse. This means to follow procedures to protect children and report any concerns about their welfare to appropriate authorities.
The aim of the policy is to promote good practice, providing children and young people with appropriate safety/protection whilst in the care of Dualing High School Annex- Katalicanan and to allow staff and volunteers to make informed and confident responses to specific child protection issues.
Policy Statement
The Dualing High School Annex- Katalicanan is committed to the following:
a. the welfare of the child is paramount
b. all children, whatever their age, culture, ability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity should be able to participate in (your sport) in a fun and safe environment
c. taking all reasonable steps to protect children from harm, discrimination and degrading treatment and to respect their rights, wishes and feelings
d. all suspicions and allegations of poor practice or abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately
e. all employees who work with children will be recruited with regard to their suitability for that responsibility, and will be provided with guidance and/or training in good practice and child protection procedures
f. working in partnership with parents and children is essential for the protection of children
g. Physical abuses any physical injury to a child that is not accidental, such as beating, shaking, burns, and biting.
h. Emotional abuse emotional injury when the child is not nurtured or provided with love and security, such as an environment of constant criticism, belittling and persistent teasing.
i. Sexual abuse any activity between a child and an adult or between a child and another child at least four years older than the victim, including activities such as fondling, exhibitionism, intercourse, incest, and pornography.
j. Neglect depriving a child of his or her essential needs, such as adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care.
