Actions Categories

There are two different categories of actions that have been designed for use with Sprocket’s Inspections module: ‘Sprocket Data Collection’ actions and ‘Sprocket’ actions. ‘Sprocket Data Collection’ actions are used to import large sets of data directly into your Sprocket system. ‘Sprocket’ actions are used to create dispatch actions as well as for time and/or material imports.

‘Sprocket Data Collection’ Actions

‘Sprocket Data Collection’ actions are used to import large sets of data directly into your Sprocket system. This eliminates the need for repetitive and tedious data entry in order to create a large amount of new records or edit existing ones. Each ‘Sprocket Data Collection’ action is designed to function the same – when data is imported, the system will evaluate each data entry and will look for a match in existing records.

There are two different kinds of actions found under ‘Sprocket Data Collection’ - ‘Create or Edit’ and ‘Edit.’ The ‘Create or Edit’ actions will update existing records found within Sprocket and will create new records for any data does not match an existing record. The ‘Edit’ actions will update any existing records but will not create new ones if data does not match an existing record– the unmatched data will not be imported.

Data that is to be uploaded using any of the ‘Sprocket Data Collection’ actions will need to be in a CSV (Comma Separated Value) format, which can be made in programs such as Microsoft Excel. Each required field available on an action must have a value listed on the spreadsheet – if blank, the data will not import.

*NOTE: Sprocket provides data collection templates for each of the different actions. Contact your Sprocket Representative or Customer Service at 1-866-891-4363 to obtain a template for data collection.

Create or Edit Account Code

  • Definition: The ‘Create or Edit Account Code’ action will upload account codes directly to Sprocket. The action collects the data using a CSV document then uploads the data to Sprocket where it modifies or updates existing records. A change date and time stamp will be assigned to any updated records.
  • Use: The ‘Create or Edit Account Code’ action is used to upload multiple new account codes or update existing account codes quickly and efficiently, avoiding tedious and repetitive data entry. Use the ‘Create or Edit Account Code’ action when you are either creating multiple new account codes or when you are updating and creating new account codes at the same time.
