Inputs

Connectingsourcedevices tothematrix switchcanbedoneinanyorder. Allinputshavethesameperformance, soorganizethemas yousee fit.

OntheCongo, besuretoconnectthegreencabletotheYsignal, as this is handleddifferentlythanthePband

TheRhine’s connectors labeled“D”areintendedforeither SPDIFdigitalaudio, oralternativelycomposite standarddefinitionvideo. Theycanalsobeusedforbothsignaltypesimultaneously,as longas careis takennot to routeasignalof onetypetoaoutputof adifferenttype. Theanalogaudiomatrixis labeled“L”and“R”.

Outputs

Havingatruematrixswitchallows youtotreateachoutputas a‘zone’. For example,Output1canbethehome theaterzone,andoutput2canbethemasterbedroomzone. Inthis caseyouwouldrunasetof componentvideo cables plus audiocables toeachzone.Themaximumlengthof cabletoeachzonewillvaryonthequalityof the cableused, butif highqualitycableis used, the8x16cansupportzones 300feetaway.

RS-232Serial

Theserialportonthe rear panelis labeled“RS-232”.Itis wiredas a “DCE”device, whichmeans itshouldbe connectedtoanormalPCs RS-232portwithastraightthroughcable.Connectiontomostcontrolsystems shouldbewithastraightthroughtypeserialcable, suchas thecableprovidedwiththematrixswitch.

Forthecommandprotocols, please refer tothemanualentitled“Integrator’s GuidetoSerialProtocols”.

USB

IfyouplantousetheUSBcommunicationfeatureofthematrixswitch, connecttheUSBcabletothePC’s USB

Operation

Overview

TheCongoandRhinearedesignedtobecontrolled formathirdpartycontrol system, either viaRS232or IR. Thebuttons onthefrontpanelallowthecontrolof powerandstatus feedback, however matrixcontrolmustbe performedfromexternalsources.

Using thefrontpanel

The8x16matrixswitch’sfrontpaneluses TouchSense! technology. This is differentfrommanyotherfront panels youhaveseenwith ‘membrane’ or ‘dome’ typebuttons. The TouchSense! panelsenses ahuman finger touchingtheacrylicpanelwithoutanymovingparts. For you, theuser, this means thatyouneednotpress hard toactivateabutton, alighttapwilldo.

Poweringthe8x16matrix switchonandoff is accomplishedbypressingthepower button. Toprevent accidentalpoweroffs, twobuttonpresses are requiredtoshutdownthematrix.

Inthenormalpoweredonmode, theCongoandRhinewilldisplaythelastcommand received. This is helpful fortroubleshootingyour control sequences.Ifthelastcommandattemptedwas notreceivedproperlyorwas not formattedcorrectly, itwillnotappearonthedisplay.

Youcanalsousetheleft/rightarrowkeys andtheselectbuttontoaccess thesetupmenu. Thesetupoptions will bediscussedinthenextsection.Generallywhenyouarepresentedwithachoiceonthedisplay, pressingselect willtogglethroughthechoices.Changes inthematrixswitchperformanceor features takes place rightaway,so changes donotneedtobesavedmanually.

Controlling fromanIRremotecontrol

ControllingthematrixswitchusingIRfollows thebasicsequenceof:

#,Out,##–Standardsequence for switching(bothCongoandRhine).Notethattheoutputnumberis always twodigits,sooutput1isrepresentedby“01”

OntheCongo, startingthesequencewiththe“In”commandis theonlyoption, sincethereis onlyonelevelto thematrix

OntheRhine,startingwiththe“In”commandcontrolbothdigitalandanalogaudiolevels ofthematrix. The digitalaudiomatrixlevelcanalsobecontrolledindependentlybythe following:

Audio1,#,Out,##–Controls digitalaudiomatrix (Rhine)

Likewise,theanalogaudio matrixlevelcanbecontrolledindependentlybythefollowing:

Audio2,#,Out,##–Controls analogaudiomatrix (Rhine)
