Prerequisite to enroll in this course:
Spanish 1 or equivalent study.
This course is a continuation of Spanish 1. In Spanish 2 students will receive more practice in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. New vocabulary and grammar are presented. The students will improve writing skills through simple compositions. They will continue to explore the culture of the Hispanic world. This class is not designed for native speakers.
Course Objectives:
To understand spoken Spanish
To express oneself in simple Spanish using appropriate pronunciation and intonation
To acquire vocabulary and the grasp of structure that enables students to read materials appropriate to the Spanish 2 level
To express ideas in writing
To understand and appreciate cultural differences

Grading Procedures:
Grading is done on a point system. Students can expect to be graded on class performance and oral participation, homework, quizzes, tests, projects, and in-class activities.
Your semester grade is made up of the following:
Quarter 1—40%Quarter 2—40%Final Exam—20%
Your semester final will consist of an oral exam, a written exam, and a multiple choice exam.
Grading Scale
A = 100-90%
B = 89-80%
C = 79-70%
D = 69-60%
F = 59-50%
Homework:
Homework is to be done outside of class. Sometimes, students will receive a stamp for each homework completed and turned in on time with a weekly point value. Other times, homework will receive an individual grade.
No late homework will be accepted.
Make-up Work:
Make-up work is only available to students with excused absences.
It is the student’s responsibility to find out the work that was missed during the excused absence.
Students are expected to turn in make-up work assigned during excused absences. Work that is
not made up within the weekafter the student returns, receives a ZERO. Do not ask for
make-up
work at the end of the quarter for an absence from the beginning of the quarter.
Tests must be made up after school or during Conference Hour within the week after the student returns.

Individual consultation with teacher:
Students are encouraged to discuss with the teacher their progress, concerns, problems, grades, etc.
I am always available during Conference Period and after school by appointment only.
Classroom Rules and Behavioral Expectations:
- Respect yourself, others, and school property.
- Refrain from using profanity.
- Turn off cell phonesand iPods before you enter my class.

- No FOOD or DRINK (except water) in the classroom.
- You will not cheat. Cheating will result in an office referral and you will have to redo any work that is not your own. Using online translatorsis a form of cheating in this class. You may use a translator as a dictionary (meaning you look up one word, not a phrase). I prefer to use
- Do not refer to drugs, sex, or alcohol on homework assignments,tests, etc. You will receive a zero.
- You will have 5 opportunities a semester to use the restroom during

Tardy Policy:

2nd tardy— Teacher detention (30 minutes) – Parent contact.

Absences:
If a student has nine (9)excused or unexcused absences per semester (this is the law in the State
of Arizona), he/she runs the risk of being dropped from the class, even if the student has an excelling
grade in the class.
Dress Code:
Please see the STUDENT HANDBOOK for the Dress Code. Dress code will be enforced.
Conference Period:
Conference period is considered a study hall and the students should be prepared to do homework,
read, orbe otherwise productive. The only way a student can be released from the classroom is
if he / she has a pre-written formal pass from another teacher or a color coded club pass.Posted
notes willnot be accepted. If you need to see me during a conferenceperiod, ask me for a pass prior to
coming. If it is necessary, the teacher has the right to continue teachingduring Conference Period.
