Waste Management Statement

The Purpose of a Waste Management Statement.

The purpose of a Waste Management Statement is show Council that adequate waste management and minimisation measures are being taken for the proposed development. The statement should be a general description of how you intend to manage waste throughout the different stages of development.

When is a Waste Management Statement Required?

A Waste Management Statement is required when the proposed development does not fall into the following categories:

  • For a single dwelling, where more than 50% of the building is to be demolished or reconstructed
  • For all Multi-unit dwellings (including mixed development)
  • For a commercial premises, where the nominated value of the development exceeds $100,000
  • For out buildings, where the floor area exceeds 30m2

Developments listed above require a Waste Management Plan to be submitted in accordance with Part 6 of the Burwood Council Development Control Plan:

What Information is Required in a Waste Management Statement?

-ordering the right quantities of material
-prefabrication of materials where possible
  • Reusing formwork
  • Minimising site disturbance, limiting unnecessary excavation
  • Careful source separation of off-cuts to facilitate reuse, resale or efficient recycling
  • Coordination/sequencing of various trades

Fitout /

Ongoing Use
