2009-2010Annual Greek Awards Packet

Enclosed in this packet are copies of the award applications for all of the individual awards and some of chapter awards presented to members and chapters of the fraternity and sorority community at Elon University. Every chapter is encouraged to submit applications for these awards. All applications will be judged by a faculty and staff committee and presented at the Annual Greek Awards Ceremony on May 5, 2010.

The following is a list of theindividual awards available:

  • Awarded to: 1 IFC Man, 1 PHC Woman, 1 NPHC Member
  • The Panhellenic Greek Woman of the year award is named the Elizabeth E. Fleuren Panhellenic Greek Woman of the Year
  • Must be a senior
  • Maximum 2 applications per chapter
  • Outstanding Chapter President
  • Awarded to one person per council
  • Must have served as President in 2009-2010
  • 1 application per chapter
  • Outstanding Greek Achiever
  • Awarded to one person per council
  • Must be a Junior
  • 2 applications per chapter
  • Greek Emerging Leader
  • Awarded to one person per council
  • Must be a Sophomore
  • 2 applications per chapter
  • Outstanding New Member
  • Awarded to one person per council
  • Must be a new member in 2009-2010
  • 2 applications per chapter
  • Outstanding Chapter and Faculty Advisor
  • Awarded to one Chapter Advisor and one Faculty Advisor
  • Must have served as an advisor in 2009-2010

  • Award is given to 8 or less people
  • Must be a senior or alumni member of Elon Greek community

  • F.I.R.E. (Fraternal Ideals Represented Everyday)
  • Awarded to members of the Elon Greek Community who exemplifies his or her chapter’s values and principles in his or her daily life
  • Must be a senior
  • Selected by Greek Life Staff
  • House Manager of the Year
  • Awarded to a house manager who has contributed to Greek Housing System
  • Selected by Assistant Director of Greek Life

  • Must be in good standing with the Office of Greek Life and your respective council
  • Award is given to a chapter based on information submitted in Foundations of Excellence and supplemental statistics

Awards are given to chapters based on information submitted in Foundations of Excellence and supplemental statistics

  • Overall Grade Improvement

  • Women’s and Men’s Facilities of Year
  • Award based on damage billing and weekly walk-through reports
  • Selected by Assistant Director of Greek Life
  • Outstanding Chapter Program (PHC, IFC, and NPHC)
  • Awarded to one chapter per council
  • Awarded to a chapter who has demonstrated varied, unique, and successful programming throughout this academic year that has benefited the university and / or greater community
  • Selected by Committee by review of Chapter Programming Reports submitted throughout the year
  • Outstanding Greek Collaboration
  • Awarded to the chapters the collaboration involved
  • To recognize the chapter(s) that has demonstrated a concerted effort to interact with a wide range of other Greek organizations within and out of their respective council
  • Selected by Committee by review of Chapter Programming Reports submitted throughout the year

Greek Man and Greek Woman of the Year

2009-2010 Application Information

This award was designed to recognize Greek leaders who have made a significant contribution to Elon University and the Greek community. The criteria for this award are as follows:

Must be a graduating senior in good standing with his/her fraternity/sorority

Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism)

Must show a commitment to improving the Greek community at Elon University, including but not limited to improvement of his/her own organization

Must promote a positive image of Greek Life

Must have attained a good balance of participation in all aspects of student life

Must have demonstrated leadership ability

Must be well respected by students, faculty, and staff

Must have demonstrated a high level of integrity

Each chapter may nominate two (2) seniors for this award, and complete the two-part application. There is a section for the nominee to complete, and a section for the chapter to complete.

This award was designed to recognize outstanding contributions from a fraternity and sorority member, but not specifically to their Greek organization. The recipient of this award should have made significant contributions to the campus community as a whole. The criteria for this award are as follows:

Must be a junior or completing their third year at Elon University during the spring term of 2010

Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism)

Must show a commitment to improving the Greek community at Elon University, through active involvement in and out of the fraternity/sorority

Must have made a significant impact on the Elon University community through involvement in a campus project, organization, etc.

Must promote a positive image of Greek Life and Student Life

Must have attained a good balance of participation in all aspects of student life

Must have demonstrated leadership ability

Must be well respected by students, faculty, and staff

Must have demonstrated a high level of integrity

This award was designed to recognize emerging leadership potential from a fraternity and sorority member. The recipient of this award should show a strong interest in holding leadership positions within the chapter and in campus organizations. The criteria for this award are as follows:

Must be a sophomore or completing their second year at Elon University during the spring term of 2009

Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism)

Must show a commitment to improving the Greek community at Elon University, through active participation in and out of the fraternity/sorority

Must promote a positive image of Greek Life

Must have attained a good balance of participation in all aspects of student life

Must have demonstrated leadership ability

Must be well respected by students, faculty, and staff

Must have demonstrated a high level of integrity

Each chapter may nominate two (2) members for this award.

Must have served as a chapter or faculty advisor during the 2009-2010academic year

Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism)

Must show a commitment to the undergraduate chapter through their involvement

Must believe in the power of the fraternity and sorority experience

Each chapter may nominate their chapter or faculty advisor for this award. There is a section for the chapter to complete. Only one chapter and one faculty advisor will be recognized at the Greek Awards Ceremony – not one men’s and women’s advisor.

This award was designed to recognize Greek leaders who have made a significant contribution to Elon University and the Greek Life and Elon community. The criteria for this award are as follows:

Must be a graduating senior in good standing with his/her fraternity/sorority

Must have a cumulative GPA the meets or exceeds a 3.0

Must exemplify the ideals that are the basis of fraternal values (scholarship, service, brotherhood/sisterhood, and interfraternalism)

Must show a commitment to improving the Greek community at Elon University, including but not limited to improvement of his/her own organization

Must promote a positive image of Greek Life

Must have attained a good balance of participation in all aspects of student life

Must have demonstrated leadership ability

Must be well respected by students, faculty, and staff

Must have demonstrated a high level of integrity
