Dear parents,

We have received advice from the Liverpool Cyber Safety Team that the app 'Musical.ly' is increasingly being used by those wishing to groom children, due to the age of most of its users.

They say: "We have dealt with about 6-8 jobs involving Musical.ly within the past 6 months. It certainly appears to be an application that paedophiles are looking to exploit as the main users of Musical.ly are children, aged 8-12 years old."

This does not necessarily mean your child is in danger if they have or use the app, but it's important to check your child's profiles if they use any form of social media account (including YouTube channels), particularly to make sure they are not revealing any personal information about themselves online.

A helpful website for information is saferinternet.org, which offers a range of advice to parents and young people. There is also more specific advice about the app itself here

Please note, this is not intended to cause alarm, but just to pass on information that we've received from the Local Authority.

Kind regards,

Mr Butland

Subject Leader for Computing

LEARNING SCHOOL

Rec: Reception have been reading ‘Can’t you sleep little bear’ and talking about our fears. We sheared ideas about what we can do when we are scared. The first 4 privilege cards were awarded to children who have been excellent all week.

Year 1: We enjoyed taking on roles and ‘hotseating’ characters from Goldilocks and the three bears. We have been learning about

open and closed questions and adjectives. We were lucky to have a special visitor, Mrs Brophy, to talk to us about special helpers in Church. Thank you Mrs Brophy!

Year 2: Year 2 are investigating materials in Science, developing skills for classification. In Geography we are learning about Island life in Scotland through Katie Morags stories and experiences.

HEALTHY SCHOOL

SCHOOL NURSE: Our School Nurse will now be available on the first Tuesday of every month (term time only) at 2.45pm for drop-in advice. No appointment necessary.

WOW: Walk to School Wednesdays

SAFE SCHOOL

Before and After School Activities

Before school activities: Parents are asked to escort children into school and hand them over to a member of staff on the door.

After School activities: Parents are asked to come on to school premises in order to pick their child up from the member of staff on the door.

Thank you for your support.

LEAVING CHILDREN BEFORE SCHOOL: The main door is opened at 8.40am each day. Children must not be left unsupervised prior to this time. Thank you

Extra-Curricular Clubs: Children must be escorted onto and from the site.

Educational Visits: If parents have not provided written consent or consent via ParentPay, our online payment facility in advance of a school trip, schools are no longer allowed to accept verbal consent over the telephone or e-mailed consent.

Parking Restrictions outside school: PLEASE RESPECT THESE AND HELP KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE. Parents are asked not to park on

the double yellow lines opposite the entrance to Friarsgate Close or to block the drives of residents in Green Lane.

Absences: Please ensure that you contact the office before 9.30am on the first day your child is absent. Thank you.

Supervision: Children under the age of 14 cannot drop children off or pick them up from school. Thank you for your support.

EARRINGS: are not allowed in school. This is clearly stated in the School Prospectus and the Home School Agreement which parents sign. If children have their ears pierced during a school holiday and return to school with earrings which have to be kept in for up to 6 weeks, they must cover them with plasters. For reasons of Health and Safety children with earrings covered with plasters cannot take part in P.E. or swimming lessons. Thank you for your support.
