SSR Metacognitive Log Procedures

STEP #1: After each SSR session, complete an entry using the following heading and one or more of the sentence starters.

While I was reading,

I got confused when…I wondered why….

I was distracted by…I noticed that…

I started to think about…The theme of the novel seems to be…

I got stuck when…This book reminds me of….

The time went quickly because…I can connect with… (character’s name) because…

A word/some words I didn’t know were…I figured out that…

I first thought….but then I realized…I predict that…. will happen next in the novel.

STEP #2: Record a brief summary of what you read.

REMINDERS:

*Entries should be specific, use details from the text, and be several sentences in length.

*Please re-read entries, checking for clarity and spelling issues.

*Metacognitive logs WILL read differently than your summary!

*You will use these logs to add to your literature circle discussions. Please have them completed before each meeting.

DUE DATE: Entries will earn stamps throughout the month for completion prior to literature circles. The completed packet must be submitted for grading by 3/27!

THIS LOG WILL COUNT AS A SUMMATIVE GRADE FOR YOUR LITERATURE CIRCLE WORK.
