GEORGE HERIOT’S SCHOOL XMAS BIKE SALE 2014 - INSTRUCTIONS FOR SELLERS
WHAT
- The following can be sold: children’s bikes (including balance bikes); adults’ bikes; scooters; tag-alongs; tow-bars; child bike-seats; and related bike accessories.
- Helmets cannot be sold.
- Items entered for sale must be fit for use. Buyers purchase items at their own risk and neither the George Heriot’s Trust, nor the GHS Parents Association, nor the individual facilitating the sale of the bike/scooter give any warranty in relation to the quality or condition, or state of repair, of the bike/scooter, nor whether it be fit for purpose.
- Basic safety checks and minor repairs will be carried out by the Bike Station’s Dr Bike. Anything deemed unfit for sale by Dr Bike (i.e., likely to cause danger to a future user) will be removed from the Sale.
- To maximise the chance of your item being sold, make sure it is in as good a condition as possible – clean off mud, pump up tyres, oil chain etc.
- Registration as a seller is only open to members of the George Heriot’s School community (parents / guardians and school staff). Members of the public are very welcome to attend the sale as buyers.
- Sellers will receive 75% of the price of the item, with 25% going to GHS Parents’ Association fundraising. We will aim to post out cheques with the sellers’ share of proceeds (minus postage) within two weeks of the sale.
- Alternatively, items can be entered as donations to the Sale – in which case 100% of the sale price will go to GHS Parents’ Association fundraising.
HOW
- Please register in advance: complete the seller’s form below and return it to the GHSPA bike sale organiser via , by Thursday 4 December.
- Only items for donation will be accepted on the day.
- Clearly label every item(e.g., with a sticky label on the seat or securely attached paper / card on handlebars) giving:
-a brief description of the item (e.g., “blue Raleigh bike, 20” wheels”)
-its price
-seller’s number and surname [Please do NOT attach the seller’s form as a label.]
- Please fix labels securely to items with sellotape or string ties – items without labels cannot be sold!
- Item prices are up to the seller. [Guide prices for second-hand bikes etc can be found via Gumtree, eBay & the BikeStation -
WHEN
- Items for Sale can be dropped off at the Refectory on
- Friday 5 December, 5-6.30pm (for overnight store in the Refectory corridor). Vehicle access to drop off bikes will be via the main gate on Lauriston Place. - OR
- Saturday 6 December, 11.30 -1pm, in the covered area outside the Refectory. Vehicle access to drop off bikes will be via the Vennel entrance for sellers on the registration list. - By prior arrangement with the Sale organisers,and at the owner’s own risk, clearly-labelled items can be left in the playground bike rack opposite Greyfriars in advance of the sale, and if unsold can be requested to be left there for collection on Monday.
- Whilst the GHSPA will endeavour to ensure supervision of items, these are left at the owner’s own risk and neither the GHPSA nor the School accept any responsibility for damage or theft whilst on the premises.
- Unsold bikes and other items must be collected by the seller, by 5.15pm following the end of the Sale. Any car access necessary to collect unsold items will be via the Vennel Entrance.
- Items left uncollected will be donated to the Bike Station (a charity) for use in their work promoting cycling in Edinburgh.
