The Chair opened the meeting and welcomed everybody.

Community Officers

SimonParkinson introduced the two Community Officers, Christine Morton and Sue Turner covering the Southern CEF area.He explained that there are 10 Community Officers between 5 CEF areas.

Their role will include:

Environmental Health and Streetscene work, noise complaints, refuse dumping, drainage, bonfire smoke, fly tipping and will assist the Community Warden. They will also coveremergency planning, housing management, estate management, Anti Social Behaviour, Choice Based Lettings and private housing.

Christine and Sue then answered a number of questions from members of the public.

Funding

Keith Westwood gave thanks for funding received for roof works to the Thorpe Willoughby Gardening Club house; 3 tonnes of straw was removed from the roof.

Colin Hunter (North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue) advised that the funding they had received bought 25 sets of fire retardant bedding and 10 fire retardant throws. If you know of any vulnerable people who may benefit from these products please get in touch.

Partners Feedback

Sergeant Matthew Foale provided crime and Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) statistics as follows:

Crimes: 46 this year - 39 last year

This is due to a rise in vehicle crime, work vans rather than cars

ThorpeWilloughby, Hambleton and Gateforth

Crimes: 28 this year – 27 last year

Burglaries 4 this year – 3 last year

Decrease in ASB in all villages

Carlton and Camblesforth- Operation Birch is due to take place in these villages shortly

Eggborough

Burglaries - 5

Auto crime - 9

Speed enforcement -

24 fixed penalty on the A645

17 fixed penalties on the A19 Whitley

HGV parking – this is being addressed

HGV 7.5 tonne limit – this was raised in the drop in session and will be investigated further.

Operation Jumbo is currently running - this covers anti poaching and rural crime.

Three further items were raised – one in Burn, one regarding HGV drivers using mobile phones whilst driving and Bawtry A19 roundabout which will be followed up.

Colin Hunter reported that:

  • The 95 Alive strategy document is being discussed with regard to future outcomes.
  • He advised that free fire home risk checks can be carried out. Please go online to book one.
  • Carbon Monoxide – he reminded people that this is a silent killer and barbeques should not be brought inside. Calor Gas and Chimney Flues can also create Carbon Monoxide so need to be properly maintained.

North Yorkshire mobile library service is coming to an end in mid September. This will be replaced by having the option of home delivery, please see website

Winter Gritting

We have signed another 4 volunteers which brings the total number of Winter Gritting volunteers to23

A number of questions were raised and these will be answered at the Chairs Winter Gritting meeting to be held on the 14 September.

Open Session

Wind Farms were raised and it was agreed to devote the next meeting to this subject.

Concerns were raised regarding disabled access within the Railway Station. In addition it was raised that Selby station is possibly going to be a non-staff station. This matter will be taken forward to the Central CEF.
