NOTICE OF 2016-2017 ADMINISTRATIVE VACANCY

POSITION: HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

LOCATION: EAST KENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL

SCHEDULE: 52 weeks/yr

QUALIFICATIONS:

·  Master’s degree with an emphasis in educational leadership, school administration, curriculum, supervision and/or related fields

·  Minimum 3 years of successful building administration experience (principal experience preferred)

·  Minimum 5 years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience

·  Administrator Certificate as required by the State of Michigan

·  Experience with a globally diverse population including students with disabilities, EL (English Learners) and at risk students

·  Cognizant of current issues and research in education of the student groups listed above

·  Leadership experience that includes evaluations of staff

·  Educational leadership skills with visionary qualities

·  Strong, positive personal characteristics and communication skills

·  Dedicated, flexible and excellent work ethic

·  Strong, positive working relationships with parents and community

·  Experience in school facility design and development with respect to technology, security and alternative learning environments

RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

·  Provides general supervision of staff and students

·  Manages school financial and budget matters

·  Implements building level policies and procedures specified by the Board of Education, the State of Michigan and the U.S. Department of Education

·  Collaborates with the District Instruction Office to design, develop, manage and deliver high quality instruction to ensure high levels of student learning

·  Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programming, co-curricular activities, and extra-curricular activities

·  Supports district assessment needs and coordinates efforts to facilitate testing at all levels pertaining to M-STEP, Mi-Access, WIDA, and other state and national assessments

·  Maintains and grows positive relationships with parents and community organizations

·  Identifies staff professional development needs and encourages professional growth of teachers to ensure high levels of student learning

·  Assigns teachers to classrooms and students to classes

·  Addresses behavioral issues until resolved in a satisfactory manner

·  Develops a culture of trust, hard work, respect and enthusiasm within the school

·  Keeps abreast of current educational practices regarding the preparation of students for college and careers to ensure the school continues to meet the needs of students (instructional program, technology, facility development, etc.)

·  Adheres to all district policies and administrative guidelines

·  Ability and desire to work as an effective member of the administrative team

·  Maintains current educational/administrative certificate by meeting required coursework

·  Such alternatives or additional duties to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may deem necessary
