To my very dear St. Peter and St. Andrew families,
I wanted to share with you that I will no longer be serving our school as the director of the spring musical. I feel that I have been extraordinarily blessed to have had the opportunity to work with so many students for 30 years in the rehearsals and productions of our spring musicals! It has been so much fun! Unfortunately, my health needs have dictated that I change the stress level in my life. Directing the spring musical as both music director and administrator has proven to be too exhausting for me as I grow older. I will continue to encourage musical participation of our students through extras such as the Christian rock band, Talent show, student music ministry and alumni music ministry (Ignite & Peter’s Rock). Also, Mrs. Jones has decided that she will no longer be involved as director because of family commitments.
What does this mean for the life of St. Peter Interparish School spring musical? It is my hope that this extracurricular activity will be able to continue for years to come. It has been part of our school for 35+ years. It is very sad to think that this wonderful opportunity for our students may come to an end. Change is hard. A quote from Pope Francis, “God is not afraid of change”.
So now we are reaching out to you! Many of our parents volunteer to be coaches, etc. We really need 2-3 people – a person willing to be the director, a person who is willing to be the administrator and possibly a person to be the music director. All will need to work closely with each other. If there is no person to be the music director, then possibly we may need to think about having a play instead of a musical. The director will manage the stage rehearsals. The administrator should have the responsibility of creating the rehearsal schedule and other written documents used to inform the cast. The administrator will need to have communication with all of the various crews of the musical: costume, concession, publicity, choreography, video, pics, etc. so as to have a complete picture of the endeavor. The musical director will manage the singing rehearsals.
The performance dates are Mar. 23, 24 & 25. Historically rehearsals have been approximately 2 hours a day, 4 days a week for 6 weeks. Rehearsals are usually held from 3:15 until 5:00. This may need to change depending on the work schedule of the new directors.
One other necessary change: The spring musical/play will be offered to students in grades 6, 7 & 8. Historically, we have included grade 5 too. This had to change because there were too many students wanting to be involved. Since our stage is small, it has continually caused problems of not being able to see everyone on stage.
If you feel you are interested in being involved as one of the positions mentioned above, or know of someone who would be good for this type of service, please contact me through email at as soon as possible.
Musically yours,
Mrs. Donna Stuckenschneider
