8th Grade Activities and Assignments for Week of 4/18– 4/22 and 4/25 – 4/29

Assignments for the next two weeks:

•Read Chapters 6-7 of Lord of the Flies by Tuesday, 4/19.

•4th period: Review C on p. 454 is due Wednesday, 4/20.

•5th period: four-tiered analysis worksheet #6 is due Wednesday, 4/20.

•Read Chapter Eight of Lord of the Flies by Thursday, 4/21.

•The Lord of the Flies vocabulary exercises for Chapters 5-8 are due Friday, 4/22.

•Students will take the Chapters 5-8 vocab quiz on Friday, 4/22.

•Read Chapters 9-10 of LOF by Monday, 4/25.

•4th period: Chapter Review exercises A, B, C, all problems, pages 455-457, are due Tues., 4/26.

•5th period: four-tiered analysis worksheet #7 is due Tuesday, 4/26.

•Students will take the district summative test in the computer lab on Wed., 4/27.

•Many students will be attending the California trip on 4/28-4/29; those of you who come to school will have work time to finish assignments.

In the weeks ahead:

  1. Students in 4th period will take their final grammar test on clauses on Thursday, 5/5; students in 5th period will take their final grammar test on four-tiered analyses on Thursday, 5/5.
  2. Students will finish reading Lord of the Flies the week of May 2-6 and will take a test on the book shortly thereafter—possibly Tuesday, 5/10.
  3. Students will take a final vocabulary test on the Level C vocabulary book sometime during the week of 5/9 – 5/13—either Wednesday, 5/11 or Thursday, 5/12.

Daily activities this week:

Monday, 4/18

  1. If you haven’t yet taken the first LOF vocab quiz, you must take it tomorrow.
  2. Students will be taking the AIMS Science test today, so students will be in Language Arts for only half of 4th period (4th period students the first half; 5th period students the second half). During this time students can work independently on one of the following priorities:
  1. Read Chapters 6-7 of LOF by tomorrow.
  2. Complete your grammar assignment due Wednesday.

Tuesday, 4/19

  1. Complete notes on Chapters 6-7 of LOF.
  2. Due tomorrow:
  1. 4th period: Review C on p. 454.
  2. 5th period: four-tiered analysis worksheet #6.

Wednesday, 4/20

  1. Check answers to Review C on p. 454 (4th period) or to four-tiered analysis worksheet #6 (5th period).
  2. Work on one of your upcoming assignments:
  1. Read Chapter 8 of LOF by tomorrow.
  2. Work on the vocab for Chapters 5-8. Students will take a quiz over these vocab words on Friday.

Thursday, 4/21

  1. Discuss and take notes on Chapter 8 of LOF.
  2. Watch the LOF movie through Chapter 8.
  3. Homework due tomorrow: LOF vocab for Chapters 5-8. Students will take a quiz over these vocabulary words tomorrow.

Friday, 4/22

  1. Study for the LOF vocab quiz for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Take the LOF vocab quiz for Chapters 5-8.
  3. Homework: read Chapters 9-10 of LOF by Monday.

Monday, 4/25

  1. Take notes on Chapters 9-10 of LOF.
  2. Homework due tomorrow:
  1. 4th period: Chapter Review exercises A, B, C, all problems, pages 455-457.
  2. 5th period: four-tiered analysis worksheet #7.

Tuesday, 4/26

  1. Check today’s grammar.
  2. Watch the LOF movie through Chapter 10.
  3. Mr. Wenz will pass out the Review sheets for the Level C vocab final. Students will complete the first of the review sheets in class, and then we’ll check answers.
  4. Homework: none!

Wednesday, 4/27

  1. Students will take the district summative Language Arts test in the computer lab.

Thursday, 4/28 – Friday, 4/29

  1. Many students will be on the California trip. We’ll have no-stress academic competitions in the classroom while the majority of the students are absent.
