Guidance and Information for Director of Development Job Applicants
Thank you for your interest in working for York CVS. Please read the following guidance and information to assist you in making your application.
1. Method of application
For this position we are asking you to provide a CV with a covering letter of application.
Please ensure that your covering letter is ideally no more than 2 sides of A4 (maximum 3 sides) and the font size is no smaller than 12.
Please ensure that you address the person specification for the post in your cover letter (see section 3 below).

In the interests of economy and speed, all correspondence regarding invitation to assessment will be by email.
2. Your CV
Your CV should exclude your age, your gender and your personal home address. We would prefer that all personal details are provided on the separate Personal Details/ Equality & Diversity Monitoring Form.
Please do ensure your CV covers the following:
Education and Training
Outline your relevant education and training and qualifications obtained. This includes occupational / vocational qualifications relevant to the post you are applying for. The appointed candidate may be required to provide proof of their qualifications on appointment.
Employment History and Experience
Please provide a complete employment history with accurate dates going as far back as you consider relevant to the post. For your current/ most recent employment please include your salary.
If there are gaps in your employment history please provide an explanation (e.g. unemployed, maternity leave, caring responsibilities etc.) with dates.
3. Your cover letter
Please take care to describe clearly how you meet the essential and desirable criteria for the post, and where possible, ensure that you provide relevant practical examples of how you meet those criteria.
The essential criteria are the minimum requirements that you will need in order to carry out the role effectively. The desirable criteria will aid you to undertake the full duties and responsibilities of the post more quickly, but are not essential at the appointment stage. However, where there is a large number of candidates for a vacancy, desirable criteria may assist the short-listing process.

5. Relationships with York CVS Staff or Trustees
Applicants must declare if they are related to, or have a close personal relationship with a member of staff or Trustee.
Canvassing directly or indirectly via someone that you are acquainted with at York CVS will automatically will result in disqualification of the candidate from the recruitment process.
6. Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 enables criminal convictions to become ‘spent’ after a certain period of time. After this period (with certain exceptions depending on the role) a person is not legally obliged to mention their previous convictions when applying for a job, unless the role falls under the statutory list of exceptions (in which case we must carry out a DBS Disclosure check).
The position you are applying for does not require a DBS Disclosure, meaning
you are not required to disclose details of any convictions which are 'spent' or ‘protected’ (within the meaning of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974).
In your application, you should provide details of any unspent convictions on a separate sheet of paper, in a sealed envelope marked 'Private and Confidential for the attention of the HR Adviser’. If applying via email, please send a separate email to the HR Adviser.
If your application is unsuccessful, any information provided regarding convictions will be destroyed.
7. Right to work in the UK
Under the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 we are required to check your right to work in the UK before you start work. For this reason we ask that you bring original documentation which proves your right to work in the UK to interview where we will check the original and retain a copy for Human Resources (please see Appendix 1 on page 5 for the list of acceptable documents). Should you be successful at interview this documentation will be stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 on your personal file. If unsuccessful, the copy will be shredded and securely disposed of.
8. Data Protection Act 1998
The information provided in your application will only be used to inform the recruitment process, unless you are successful, in which case it will form the basis of your personnel record with York CVS.
Please ensure your details and the all information provided are correct. If you provide any false information this may invalidate any offer of employment, or lead to termination of employment.
9. Availability for Interview / Assessment
Please note that the selection date(s) are stated in the job advertisement, and therefore it is highly unlikely that we would be able to offer alternative dates, due to the availability of the selection panel.
10. Offers of Employment
Once a recruitment decision has been made we will issue a conditional offer of employment. Full confirmation of an offer of employment is subject to the satisfactory completion of the following employment checks:
· Two satisfactory references (one must be from your current or most recent employer);
· Evidence of eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the requirements of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006;
· Identity Check;
· Proof of qualifications held;
· DBS Disclosure clearance (if applicable).
All new employees are subject to satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period
11. What Happens Next
Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to contact applicants who have not been short-listed for assessment.

APPENDIX 1:
If you have documents from List B only, your right to work in the UK is time-limited and further checks will be required during your employment to establish whether your right to work has been extended. If you have documents from Group 2 of List B, a Positive Verification Notice1 will be requested from the Home Office.
List A: Acceptable documents to prove indefinite right to work in the UK
1. A passport showing the holder, or a person named in the passport as the child of the holder, is a British citizen or a citizen of the UK and Colonies having the right of abode in the UK.
2. A passport or national identity card showing the holder, or a person named in the passport as the child of the holder, is a national of a European Economic Area country or Switzerland.
3. A Registration Certificate or Document Certifying Permanent Residence issued by the Home Office to a national of a European Economic Area country or Switzerland.
4. A Permanent Residence Card issued by the Home Office to the family member of a national of a European Economic Area country or Switzerland.
5. A current Biometric Immigration Document (Biometric Residence Permit) issued by the Home Office to the holder indicating that the person named is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK, or has no time limit on their stay in the UK.
6. A current passport endorsed to show that the holder is exempt from immigration control, is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK, has the right of abode in the UK, or has no time limit on their stay in the UK.
7. A current Immigration Status Document issued by the Home Office to the holder with an endorsement indicating that the named person is allowed to stay indefinitely in the UK, or has no time limit on their stay in the UK, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer.
8. A full birth or adoption certificate issued in the UK which includes the name(s) of at least one of the holder’s parents or adoptive parents, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer.
9. A birth or adoption certificate issued in the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Ireland, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer.
10. A certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British citizen, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer.
List B: Acceptable documents to prove time-limited right to work in the UK
Group 1 – Documents which prove right to work in the UK until expiry of the document
1. A current passport endorsed to show that the holder is allowed to stay in the UK and is currently allowed to do the type of work in question.
2. A current Biometric Immigration Document (Biometric Residence Permit) issued by the Home Office to the holder which indicates that the named person can currently stay in the UK and is allowed to do the work in question.
3. A current Residence Card (including an Accession Residence Card or a Derivative Residence Card) issued by the Home Office to a non-European Economic Area national who is a family member of a national of a European Economic Area country or Switzerland or who has a derivative right of residence.
4. A current Immigration Status Document containing a photograph issued by the Home Office to the holder with a valid endorsement indicating that the named person may stay in the UK, and is allowed to do the type of work in question, together with an official document giving the person’s permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer.
Group 2 – Documents which prove right to work in the UK for 6 months
1. A Certificate of Application issued by the Home Office under regulation 17 (3) or 18A (2) of the Immigration (European Economic Area) Regulations 2006 to a family member of a national of a European Economic Area country or Switzerland stating that the holder is permitted to take employment which is less than 6 months old together with a Positive Verification Notice1 from the Home Office Employer Checking Service.
2. An Application Registration Card issued by the Home Office stating that the holder is permitted to take the employment in question, together with a Positive Verification Notice1 from the Home Office Employer Checking Service.
3. A Positive Verification Notice1 issued by the Home Office Employer Checking Service to the employer or prospective employer which indicates that the named person may stay in the UK and is permitted to do the work in question.
1 A Positive Verification Notice is official correspondence from the Home Office Employer Checking Service which confirms that a named person has permission to undertake the work in question.
