We are pleased to again be offering the state-approved driver education program at Oakland Catholic. This consists of a thirty (30) hour live class in driver education theory, and six (6) hours of behind-the-wheel instruction in a dual-controlled training car. The classes are held Tuesdays after school from 2:40 to 5:40 for ten weeks. The Fall class starting date is September 6, 2016, with all following classes corresponding with the school calendar. There is no age requirement, nor does the student need a learner’s permit for the classroom.

The driving portion is given once the student obtains a learner’s permit, and may be taken any time during the year, including the summer. Additional lessons may be obtained and the students may use the training car for the driving test for additional fees. Note: We are now a PennDOT certified driving test provider so students who complete the course can take thedriving test with us at a 50% reduced additional testing fee. Please contact the driving school for information regarding the third party testing.

The total tuition for this program is $470.00

$150.00 payment to be paid at the beginning of the classroom phase

$320.00 payment to be paid when the behind-the-wheel phase is scheduled. (Note: There may be a slight price increase in the behind-the-wheel phase if gas prices escalate.)

Upon successful completion of BOTHthe classroom and behind-the-wheel phases, the student will receive a certificate which may qualify the student for insurance discounts ranging from 10% to 20% up until the ages of 21 to 25 depending on the insurance carrier. (Check with your agent for individual savings information.) The certificate also makes the student eligible to obtain a senior license at

age 17 ½ as opposed to waiting until age 18.

Obtaining a driver’s license is an important event in your child’s life, but with it comes tremendous responsibilities. The student should realize that obtaining a license is only the beginning. The actual test is demonstrating safe driving skills and competency in real life conditions. This is a test that lasts a lifetime. Hopefully we can assist your child in passing both tests.
