Members of the Ponchatoula Jaycees announce that they have created a scholarship of $1000.00 (one time award), which will be awarded each year to one graduating PonchatoulaHigh School senior. Selection will be made without regard to sex, race, creed, color or national origin. The scholarship will be available for the spring semester following the completion on the fall semester immediately after the recipient’s high school graduation.

The recipient will be chosen by a selection committee composed of the following: Ponchatoula High School Principal, a Ponchatoula High School Assistant Principal, a Ponchatoula High School Guidance Counselor, and three outstanding members of the Ponchatoula Jaycees. The committee will select the recipient of the scholarship based upon the following criteria:

  1. Minimum cumulative average of 3.0
  2. Minimum ACT score of 20
  3. Financial need
  4. Participation in school activities
  5. Character and personality
  6. Must attend SoutheasternLouisianaUniversity

Applications for the Philip Bougere Memorial Scholarship will be issued from the Guidance Counselor’s office.

The above sum will be paid in the form of a check payable to the student and SoutheasternLouisianaUniversity for the spring semester following the completion of the fall semester immediately after high school graduation, providing that a 2.50 (C+) average is maintained and that the student is enrolled on a full time basis. It will be the responsibility of the recipient to contact the Ponchatoula Jaycees to obtain the check and provide proof of enrollment for the spring semester along with a copy of your fall semester grades.

The Jaycee Scholarship chairman will present this scholarship to the recipient chosen by the selection committee at the Ponchatoula High School Senior Awards Day. A permanent plaque inscribed with the recipient’s name will be housed in the PonchatoulaHigh School trophy case, and a plaque will be presented to the scholarship recipient.

The terms of this scholarship will be subject to annual review by the Ponchatoula Jaycees. At this time, the scholarship may be withdrawn or changed upon approval by the PonchatoulaHigh School principal. Notification of this review meeting will be made two week prior to Senior Awards Day. Recipients must show proof of a grade point average of 2.5 for their first fall semester at SoutheasternLouisianaUniversity.

The criteria for determining the recipient of the $1000.00 scholarship include the following: (1) applicant must be a graduating senior; (2) minimum cumulative average of 3.0; (3) minimum ACT score of 20; (4) participation in school activities; (5) financial need; (6) character and personality; (7) must attend Southeastern Louisiana University in the fall and spring term immediately following high school graduation.

All applications will be reviewed by a committee. The recipient of the scholarship will be announced during the Senior Awards Day assembly.
