We’re looking for several local (SF Bay Area) artists to participate “Facing Ourselves. at the JanRae Community Art Gallery at the Women’s Cancer Resource Center Gallery in North Oakland. This group show will feature the work of local LGBTQ artists. The show will run from April 24 – June 30, 2015. The theme is portraits or expressions of self. Please read through all of this information before submitting.
Our preference is for colorful and/or meaningful work. We have shown paintings, drawings, quilts, gourds, ceramics, bamboo, collage, masks, etc. 3-D work needs to fit on top of book shelves - we don't have pedestals but if you do we can use them in the show as they fit in the space. 2-D work must be framed/mounted securely and wired across the back.
We have approximately 100 feet of linear wall space for display and use the walker hanging system. We are not a dedicated gallery; the gallery runs throughout our office space. We have a few spots for sculpture. I’m estimating that each artist could have 2 – 5 pieces in the show based on the size of your work.
Work must be delivered to the gallery by you or your representative. Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to deal with incoming/outgoing shipping of art.
Most of our art receptions draw 50 – 150 people. If your art is on exhibit we expect your attendance at the reception and hope that you will invite your friends, family and fans. We will provide music and/or entertainment and simplerefreshments at the reception. We will produce a color postcard for you to use for publicity. We will hang the show and make labels for the art. You may sell your work or not, as you wish. If you do sell work we ask for a (tax deductible) 20% commission and you are welcome to donate a higher percentage (also deductible) if you are interested. There is no cost to the artist to submit work to the show and no cost to be in the show other than the 20% commission on any work sold.
This is the 3rd LGBTQ group visual art show that we have had at WCRC.
This art show is co-sponsored by the Pacific Center in Berkeley.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
The easiest way for us to see your work is to look at websites or jpgs. If you are submitting jpgs - please send work that you have available to show. Clear photos from a camera phone are acceptable. If you send a link to your website please let us know which work you are submitting if there are several bodies of work included.
You may also submit a paragraph or two about why you’d like to show at WCRC. Statements and bios are very welcome and can be informal in nature. These additional materials are optional.
Please send your submissions to or contact Margo for more information 510-350-1311. Work will be reviewed as in comes in so please submit as early as you are able. Final deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 1 at midnight. We will contact you only if your work is accepted into the show.
