Programme Outline
Lizzie is a happy girl with not a worry in the world until her parents have mysteriously disappeared. Her parents are scientists who can invent new things and ideas. Why would they suddenly leave her? Then, her father’s friend, Uncle Claude comes to live in Lizzie’s house with some children and “Ice People”, some strange-looking security guards in white overalls and goggles. But why is Uncle Claude sitting in a wheelchair? What will happen if the children try to run away? And there is the Ice King with a “Freezo” machine to freeze or “change” people’s hearts and brains in the basement of her house! Who is the Ice King? There are so many things Lizzie does not understand. Things have really got out of control! Can her Fairy Godmother help her?

Pre-viewing Activities
1. Introduce the title of the programme and the main characters of the story, Lizzie, Rowan, Uncle Claude, the Ice King, Ice People, Lizzie’s Fairy Godmother and the Wizard. It would be helpful to write the names of the main characters on the board for the pupils to see.
2. Ask the class to guess what the “Freezo” machine can do.
3. Briefly introduce the story.
4. Motivate the pupils by asking them how Lizzie would feel when she finds that her father and mother have suddenly and mysteriously disappeared. Brainstorm answers to the question.
5. Go through the questions in the While-viewing Activity with the class.
While-viewing Activity
Pupils watch the programme and follow the questions in COPYMASTER 1. Ask them to guess the answers to the questions.
Post-viewing Activities
1. Go to COPYMASTER 1 and go through the questions with the class.
2. Go to COPYMASTER 2. Go through the questions with the class and discuss with them what will happen to Lizzie.
