A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE DEBORAH B. HARWELL OF MYRTLE BEACH FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HER CAREER AND COMMUNITY AND CONGRATULATE HER FOR RECEIVING A MARY DEAN BREWER WOMAN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD ON MARCH 9, 2006.

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives recognize those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves in furtherance of their communities; and

Whereas, though raised in Shelby, North Carolina, Deborah Harwell made Myrtle Beach her home and has lived and worked there for over twentyfive years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harwell celebrates a loving marriage to retired South Carolina Chief Justice David Harwell, and they enjoy their son, Michael, and his wife and two grandchildren; and

Whereas, acquiring great journalistic experience in working with several print publications and film companies, Mrs. Harwell went on to found her own newspaper, The Myrtle Beach Herald, the first paid newspaper in many years started by an individual in South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harwell eventually sold her newspaper, and is now President and CEO of Adobe Palm Communications. She also is part of the morning team radio talk show on WRNN 99.5 in Myrtle Beach; and

Whereas, still finding time to give back to the community, Mrs. Harwell has served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors for the Horry County Shelter Home, and the City of Myrtle Beach Train Depot Renovation Committee; and

Whereas, Mrs. Harwell’s work in her community has not gone unnoticed, as she was presented the highest honor of the Palmetto State Lady by the Governor, Beta Sigma Phi Girl of the Year, and has received several Optimist Club awards; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives laud Mrs. Harwell for her commitment to her career and the lives of her neighbors and friends within her community, and wish her all the best in the continued impact she is sure to have in years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives honor and recognize Deborah B. Harwell of Myrtle Beach for her outstanding contributions to her career and community and congratulate her for receiving a Mary Dean Brewer Woman of Achievement Award on March 9, 2006.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Deborah B. Harwell.
