AMPHENOL INTRODUCES NEW EXPLOSION-PROOF
CONNECTORS THAT UTILIZE COAX AND FIBER
SIDNEY, N.Y., September 2006 – Amphenol Industrial Operations, a manufacturer of high reliability connectors and interconnection systems for industrial markets, now offers a new mini explosion-proof threaded connector specifically designed to allow a signal to pass through Zone rated areas, using coax and fiber optic cables as well as standard copper.
Complementary to Amphenol’s industry-proven Starline EX, the new Amphe-EX connector series is intended for use in the oil and gas exploration, petrochemical, chemical, paint, pharmaceutical manufacturing, power generation, and fuel storage industries. The small, explosion-proof connectors allow for small wire gauges (12 – 28 AWG) and require less space for the interconnect. They feature scratch-resistant, anodic hardcoat plated hardware that improves heat resistance and dielectric strength over standard plating.
In addition, the rugged Amphe-EX connectors are ATEX, AEX & IEC approved for Zone 1 rated applications, and come complete with EX rated sealing cable glands. Available in five shell sizes and 50 insert patterns, the Amphe-EX is flameproof compliant to EN 60079-0 and EN 60079-1.
