1.Organisationalenvironment

Since1986PortMelbourneNeighbourhoodCentre(PMNC)hasprovidedabroadrangeofaffordableaccessiblesocial,educationalandcommunitydevelopment programstoadiversecommunity.PMNCprovideslifelonglearningandrecreationprogramsincludingEnglish,literacy,informationtechnology,parenting,workandlifeskills.Theseprogramshelpparticipantsmanagedailylife,dealwithdisability,andovercomedisadvantage andsocialisolationwhiletransitioningintowork,study orotheractivities.

ParticipationinPMNCcommunityevents,artsandsocialgroupsalsogeneratescommunitybenefitsrelatedtobroaderconnectionsdeveloped.Networksarecreatedbetweenparticipants,workersandotherinstitutionshelppeoplefeelpartofacommunityandbecomemoretolerantofdifference.ThepositiveexperiencesformanyatPMNCleadthemtowanttogivebacktothecommunityandsomebecomeinvolvedinvolunteering,committees,ordecision‐makingactivitiesinthebroaderneighbourhood.AllthesePortMelbourneNeighbourhoodCentreinitiativesandprogramsfacilitateanactivecitizenshipandastronger,resilientandmoreinclusivecommunity.

Currentlyover40activitiesareorganisedbythePMNCeveryweek.Theseactivitiesinclude a range ofadulteducationclassesandanumber ofsupportedrecreationaloutreachprogramsfordisadvantagedfamilies,youthandindividuals.Mostof theseactivitiesoccuratthemainvenueinPortMelbourne,withanumberheldatotherlocationstheCityOfPortPhillip.

TheCentrereceivesfundingfromtheCityofPortPhillip,theDepartmentofHealthandHumanServicesandtheAdult,CommunityFurther Education Board.

1.PositionObjective

PortMelbourneNeighbourhoodCentrerequiresanexperiencedandqualifiedTeachertorunESL/Literacycourses.TheESL/Literacy Teacher isrequiredtocoordinateandimplement thedeliveryofESL/Literacy classesinaneffectiveandsensitivemannerforcourseparticipants,maintainingefficientdocumentationinlinewithACFErequirements.Theteacherwouldbeexpectedtodevelop abriefcourseoutline forthecourse.Bothcoursesare ACFEfunded,arefocusedonadultlearners,arenon‐accredited,willcontainnoformalsummativeassessmentandor qualification, andaretobe taughtinaNeighbourhoodCentre setting.

2.PRINCIPALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES

2.1Co‐ordinationanddeliveryoftheESL/LITERACYclassesasnegotiatedwiththePMNCManager

• CoordinateandimplementtheESL/LITERACYcoursesassessthelanguageandsocialneedsofthe students
• DeliveryofclassesduringschooltermsasnegotiatedandapprovedbyPMNC.
• Identifylanguage andpossiblenonlanguage outcomes/goals for eachstudent
• Development of session plans for the ESL/LITERACY classes to PMNC prior to thecommencementofeachcourse.
• Tailorcurriculumtoarangeofliteracy andoralskillswithinthe group
• Utilizestudentslifeexperiencesindevelopingcurriculum
• Developtechniquestoassistmemoryimprovement
• LiaisonwithPMNCstaffregardingclassroommaterialsandequipmentnecessaryforcoursedelivery.
• LinkstudentsintorelevantneighbourhoodCentreactivitiesandotherorganisationsandprovideresourcesrelevanttotheirneeds
• BepreparedtoparticipateinPMNCpromotions andspecialevents

2.2Maintaineffective/efficientdocumentationinlinewithfundingbodyrequirements

• Ensureallstudentscompleteenrolment,learningplansandevaluationforms
• Maintainweeklyattendancerecordsthroughoutthecourses
• ProvideabriefannualreportintimefortheAnnualreportofPMNC
• CompletionofPQFA/framedocumentsasrequiredforeachcoursetaughtperschoolterm

3.ORGANISATIONALRELATIONSHIP

TheteacherisdirectlyaccountabletothePMNCManagerandisdirectlyresponsibleformeetingidentifiedcourseoutcomesandrequirementsandthesupervisionofthestudentsduringclassfor the periodofthe course.

Theteacherisexpectedtoliaisewiththe PMNCManagerregularlytodiscussthecourse’sprogress.

4.KEYSELECTIONCRITERIA

Mandatory:

• Qualificationsanddemonstratedexperienceinprovisionof ESL/literacyclasses,anddevelopmentofcourseoutlines.
• Demonstratedexperienceworkingwithadultlearnersinacommunitysetting.
• ITliteracyinprogramssuchasMSwordandExcel

Desirable

• KnowledgeandexperienceworkinginaNeighbourhoodCentresetting.
• PreviousACFEteacherexperience.
• Certificate4inworkplacetrainingandassessment.
